Like most places they are booked out solid. There's a gap in the market for somebody to open a big facility but it seems there's a massive shortage of suitably qualified bike mechanics.

Am I right in saying that there is no official certification path for motorcycle mechaninc in Ireland not like the UK?

Thought I read that somewhere.

No gem as in Ranelagh as rebuilt years ago.

The Gem is the little workshop down a lane in Ranelagh... it wasn't actually part of the New Gem (Grahams; which is ling gone), but they supported each other. The Gem is still there. I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with them and if they still do good work?

I would have called it Donnybrook as it is in a lane, right beside Sachs Hotel. :)

I had my Pan European serviced there last year and the guys were absolutely fantastic. Very helpful and willing to answer questions, the price was good too (it was more than a standard service, I got a new exhaust as well). I would highly recommend them.

it's like everything else : no-one wants to pay properly, and won't invest in training etc. And, as customers, we're a bit culpable as well: always chasing price.

Bikes today aren't like old CB400 Superdreams and GP125's - the tech and knowledge on new bikes is every bit as high as the highest spec cars - and some of those are €125 - €175 and hour to get serviced.........and needs tech just to find things on it: my GoldWing a case in point...........

Oil one year or 6000km. ( Less even if u want but that's as long as I'd leave it.)

Brake/Clutch fluid every two years.

Coolant every 3 years.

Plugs will depend on what type of plug u use.

Anything else will be kept an eye on with regular checks.

User manual has everything you need to know regarding intervals, thats what I follow. The major things like fluids and engine servicing I am like clock work. the other smaller maintenance things like adjustments here and there I tend to just keep an eye on it and sort them as see fit.

I use central motorcycles out behind the Toyota garage on the kilbeggan road. Absolutely top notch guys and excellent to deal with.
