Delighted for Verona but the power Roglic showed at the end of that stage was frightening. Looked better than ever today.

He put 20-30m into O'Connor in about 5 seconds, and he was on the limit trying to keep up, unreal power.

Vingy-go looked great as well, reckon he could have stayed with roglic if he had the freedom to do so.

I was wrong about Roglic. He is up for this and is looking good for July. So hope for a challenge after all. Pity about Eddie. I'm still mystified as to why Jumbo didn't send Vingegaard as leader to a different grand tour. Surely he could have competed for a Giro or Vuelta win.

Its clear that the Tour is all that matters to them. The team they sent to the Giro was awful.

You could have said the same as you say there about Sepp Kuss.

TDF is starting in Copenhagen, Vingegaard is danish...

I'd say he is happy out for as long as it lasts with regards to his pay. I certainly would be.

Kuss doesn't want to be a leader iirc from interviews with him or his DS.

At this rate they’re staring down the barrel of relegation unless Bevin or Woods can save them with more points, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lotto pull something out of the bag at the tour

It has to be the right people getting wins/points places at the right races though doesn't it, it's not a case of anyone scoring will do as they only count the points from the top 10 riders in the team or something similarly convoluted. The way the points are awarded at different levels is bonkers.

60 points for Verona today as opposed to the winner of the 1.Pro race in Belgium getting 200 and his team mate taking 150 for second place. A stage at the tour is 120 points and the top 5 score each day. 1000 points for the over all.

De lie has got something crazy like 800 points for Lotto in the last few months, been winning or placing in a heap of belgian races

Kuss is nowhere near being a GC contender. Maybe in the future but he has no time trial as well as lacking consistency. Kuss going to the Tour makes sense as support for Roglic as a pure climber and to give him his due possibly one of the best climbers in the world on his day. All the more reason to give Vingegaard leadership in another grand tour but I take retalivity's point about Denmark. Not to mention if he goes better than Roglic then he might podium again or if shock horror Pog has a bad tour (hard to imagine but can happen to the best) a win.

Well Rog could crash at some point during the Tour (not an unlikely scenario) so it'd be good to have Vingegaard as a GC backup

Kuss finished eighth in the Vuelta last year while busting his backside for Roglic. How high would he finish as team leader of a decent team do you think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,256 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Kuss has said a few times he doesnt want the pressure of going for gc...much happier busting himself for someone else then following wheels after roglic takes off. Reminds me of bardet abit, will not win a gc with a lot of TT, but is capable of any moutain stage. hes happy supporting and having a chance at stages, and jumbo probably paying him plenty for that

Good support climbers will often finish higher almost by default because they go fairly deep into the mountain stages so I probably wouldn't give his 8th in the Vuelta as much weight as you might (Odd Christian Eiking finished 11th) but I suppose if he peaked for a grand tour with minimal TT'ing then he would have a good shot. I would still worry about his consistency which may be mitigated by good prep and peaking at the right time. Still wouldn't see him as a big time GC candidate vs Vingegaard. Maybe down the road if he changes his mind about it himself.

Eddie in the break, has de plus with him as well

Pierre Rolland in the break again even though I don't think he needs points for the KOM jersey, been some race for him this week haven't seen him this up for it in a few years now.

Break dont seem to have a hope here, only 90 seconds up the road and 55k & 2 climbs to go

Looks like Dunbar might have lost the time yesterday to have a crack at the stage today...

Shame Eddie couldn’t keep away but the peloton are gonna swallow up that break pretty quick

    Jumbo Visma domination really

They don't usually attack so far out do they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,783 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Rog has to let vingegogo get the stage win surely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,631 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Jumbo Visma are frighteningly strong. Pog will have to be at his very best to beat them.

You'll have Roglic, Vingegaard, Kuss, Kruijswijk, Bouwman, Benoot, Van Aert, Laporte and one of Oomen or Dennis I think. I doubt they'll bring Dumoulin as he's shown nothing this year.

I think they'll bring Laporte to enhance Van Aert 's chances of the green. I think they'll want yellow and green this year. Even if Pog wins it'd be a little success if they got green.

Only 8 in the tour team. Doubt Bouwman will go, after the giro, so its probably Roglic, Vingegaard, Kuss, Kruijswijk, Benoot, Van Aert, Laporte & Dennis.

Pog will probably have McNulty, Bennett, Majka, Soler, possibly even Almeida, so not too shabby. TBH though, i don't think Pog needs anyone, other than to get him bottles!

    Isn't it 22 teams and 188 cyclists?

I remember two years ago Pog just sat on the back of Jumbo Visma, it was like he used them as his team.

Crazy stuff in the baby giro, Hayter's little brother was 3 mins behind 2 of FDJ's wonderkids with 30km to go, still ended up winning by nearly 5 minutes!

Back then I think ROG made the mistake of thinking it would be nice to let his young little countryman tag along for white.
