Folks as someone who lives in ballybough right behind croker I can high advise against using that clonlife road carpark.
If you park there be warned, getting out is an absolute nightmare. You'll spend over an hour in traffic on clonlife, then once out of clonlife you'll be stuck in drumcondra.

I walked down clonlife an hour after the match today and it was absolutely packed on the drumcondra bound side all the way to the end of clonlife.

To add, drumcondra train station is also a nightmare on a big match day, the quest to get in there after a match stretch around the block.

Best thing is to park in the Q carpark on Marlboro Street or the cineworld carpark on parnell Street and take a taxi up as close as possible if you are elderly /not able to walk the distance.

Trust me on this I'm well experienced with it lol

Why encourage someone to park in Q park when Matt Talbot, Fitzgibbon street, are all free.

Why encourage someone to park in Q park when Matt Talbot, Fitzgibbon street, are all free.

Because you'll spend forever in traffic trying to get out of the area.

If you don't want to take the advice of someone living there over 30 years with family coming up for the games then so be it.

    Cheers

Not so sure of the "sunday free parking all day" most of drumcondra has these signs.

110 percent it's free parking the only areas that aren't are the red zones as I said which would be the likes of Fitzroy and them small streets.

God love ye lads from beyond the pale. Pay parking is 7am to 7pm Monday to saturday. Sunday free parking all day only not in red zones.

Free parking around croke park on a Sunday is Philipsburg avenue, Fitzgibbon street, mountjoy sq and the Northside of Dorset street.

Not so sure of the "sunday free parking all day" most of drumcondra has signs 07.00 to 24.00 mon to sun. 2 hr max stay.

Apologies my posts are a bit all over the place.
We dint get to the big schmoke that often.
In 2014 we parked behind quins pub on the st. Met the clamper and he said to put up 2 or 3 tickets just to cover the time we would be there and we wouldnt be clamped.
A clampers word 4 years ago may not be a clampers word tomorrow.

How can I post a picture on the site on merrion square, signs are all free parking sunday

Park on Glengarriff parade or any street near there. They're all free on Sunday. I travel to Croke park regularly and always park up around there. Stop "dreading" it ffs and enjoy the day!

    No you should be fine.

GET there 2 hours before the match latest.

It's really not worth parking on street around the stadium, it's a bloody nightmare getting out.

The gardai make a total Hames of it every time, no communication between them at all

I disagree. If you park really close and head straight to the car after, you’ll zoom out the road. I’ve been home to mayo after sell out crowds in Croke Park in no time at all. Some spots/areas are better than others but I’ve found on street parking is the fastest and easiest way to get on the road after the game. I used to park in O’Connell schools or even in the city centre but I’ve given up on that!!

Well aren't you lucky that your county are in croke park often enough that you know where to park.

Everyone knows where to park. If your listening to Local knowledge you will end up paying a fortune and having to taxi it from the Q park.

If you have to pay on street and it Will only give you a ticket up to 2 or 3 hours duration then buy 2 tickets at the same time and put both in the window together. This shows the clampers you have paid for 4 or 6 hours and it is an unspoken fact that they are told not to clamp vehicles that do this on a GAA day in croker.

Wouldn't it be fun if, one day, the authorities actually applied the law and clamped or ticketed or towed all the illegally parked cars?

It's not just Kerry I go to support, I go to concerts and other games I think might be a good watch too. Parking up around Glengarriff parade is a 10 minutes walk from the stadium and you have the option of heading for either the n1 or n2 after to get you onto the m50.

If residents ring DCC about people doing this then they will be clamped and I've seen it happen loads of times

It took a family member of mine an eternity to get through the traffic yesterday, he parked in fairview himself (up from limerick).

But hey, what's the point in listening to locals, sure what would we know........

Funny enough I live on the avenue...... And it was fine itself, until leaving it.

I'm not arguing this with you. I think I know my area well enough after all these years.... Yawn

Hmm I live near enough to Croker and have a driveway I don't use. Wonder how much I could make renting it out on matchdays...

Jesus, give it a rest you two. Unless both of you were standing there looking at the exact same parking spot, at the exact same time, on the exact same day, you can hardly know precisley what the other is talking about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,563 ✭✭✭dobman88

Just on the thing that has people paying for 2 or 3 tickets which last for 2 or 3 hours each. There's a park by txt option that I use all the time for work.

The number is 53311 and the message you send is

Park (zone parked in) (amount of time you want to park for) (car reg) m

I'm not sure what the zone is around croke park but the signs which show parking times are colour coded.

For instance if I want to park in a yellow zone for one hour I txt

    Park yellow 60 151Dxxxxx m

The beauty of that is if you get held up you just fire off another txt.

Hope it helps someone and sorry for the longwinded post.

We parked behind quins. Put 3 tickets on the dash and we were fine. I didnt count on extra time tho!

Parking seems to have tightened up a lot since this topic started

Obviously with the Leinster Final tomorrow night, there are no late trains heading towards Kilkenny or Kerry after the Leinster Final which may potentially go to Extra Time and Penalties

Consequently anyone travelling will need to drive and park, or park and ride.

Once upon a time I used to park for night time games on one of the side streets at the back of Quinns, but these are now all 2 hour pay parking up to midnight 7 days a week.

The commuter train from Maynooth now takes 40 minutes to and from Drumcondra, whereas previously it used to take only 28 minutes.

The Luas to the Red Cow is probably the best option now for a Saturday night game that is not sold out
