Great silence about that trrribul hotel in Turkey that kidnaps chiselers.

Indeed, still not a sausage (so to speak) about this story, anywhere apart from those two English tabloids. Thankfully the delightful couple weren't travelling yesterday, there'd be definitely fisty cuffs and a spot of eye gouging.

They are going to have to cancel flights to ameliorate the chaos in next couple of weeks. A few of them can be redirected to Cork, Kerry, Shannon, & Ireland West. Or indeed Belfast’s 2 airports & Derry.

Seems to be pretty bad in England too, Airlines appear to be just cancelling flights, not sure if its airport problems or costs (fuel), their own staffing problems.

Quoting a tweet by some randomer saying, "The management company that owns #joeDuffy have connections with the management at the DAA & that’s why no calls on the airport were allowed, instead we got panic attacks, JoeDuffy should retire this calendar year,he is hated now among public,he sold out a long time ago #liveline", isn't really proof that Duffy is coming under quite a lot of criticism.

When I mention that flights would really have to be cancelled, my own upcoming ones would be in that lotto. Would mean losing hotel payments. Gonna be a lot of losses sustained by travellers this year as during the pandemic where sone of these just won’t be able to be recouped. I can see the ferry/rail companies doing relatively better. Maybe an added ferry connection or two with mainland Europe. I imagine the Cork-Bilbao route should do very well, as people will use it as a mini cruise. North of Spain is fabulous for culture, food, nature etc, and beaches though it does endure a lot of rain.

I actually loved travelling by ferry when I worked on Swansea, Rosslare (Horrendous Kip) to Fishguard (even worse Horrendous Kip) , hour and a half drive to Swansea, or Pembroke, slightly longer Drive Ferry trip was between 3.5 & 4 hours , faster in summer.

Much preferred Stena than Irish Ferries (who have staffing problems of their own)

The Cork to Bilbao must be a 24 hr trip 🤔

I would travel across country to an airport if needs be, would treat it like an extension of my holiday… once I could get into a hotel.

I was looking at the price of overnights in the Twickenham hotel where I stayed, located in a great area right next door to frequent train into central London. During rugby season it goes up in price, but In shoulder season, eg September, it is €65 per night bed & full English breakfast, as much as you want of your sausages, rashers, eggs, beans, hash browns, tomato, croissants, toast, juice, tea, coffee. I can really recommend it for a great value break in London.

I once brought my mother to the Lake District on a ferry service that operated Dublin to Liverpool docks (one had to wait for tide) overnight. Deal was car, both of us in a lovely little cabin, breakfast. It mostly catered for truckers, was extremely comfortable & quiet ferry with emphasis on restfulness. My mother absolutely looooved it. Only an hour on the motorway north to the Lake District. Can’t remember the ferry line, but it only operated the route for about two years, I think it was cargo/truckers only after that/Greenore/Belfast routes. She said she felt she was on a cruise.

Bilbao would be really nice, although the Bay of Biscay is notorious for its swell, but will be doing a cruise later in year which goes Dublin-Lundy-St Martin (Scilly)-Brittany Islands-crossing Biscay-Asturias-Galicia-Porto-Lisbon, so will experience that swell! Otherwise I would have booked Cork-Bilbao as a mini cruise.

My sister & husband have done exactly that, ferry from Dublin to France, drive to southern Italy in their own car, taking their time, saved on car hire, airport hassle & unlimited luggage!

    That's Swell , so to speak 😁

Never done a cruise, I actually suffered terribly with sea sickness when I was a chisler, used to do day trips from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead , really cheap , infact I'm sure I mitched from school to go on a ferry trip holyhead 😁

Got over the sea sickness in later life , Did an island hopping trip by ferry , Greek Isands but more a hop than a cruise over two weeks.

I suffer from seasickness & travel sickness in general, and must take Kwells to reduce that. Only in deliberate repeat aerobatic manoeuvres do I get airsickness.

I’ve done the Norwegian Hurtigruten voyage a few times, delightful & low key kind of travel, great country house type cooking, you take what’s put in front of you in the evening (always excellent quality), buffet at breakfast & lunch. It’s always a good choice for those who might like a quieter type of cruise without the dressing up and entertainment, it’s a working ship but perfectly salubrious in a low key way. Did it one Christmas too, weather in western Norway was very mild compared to Central Europe.

Joseph is in a bind today. His bs coverage of airport has been called out.

I wud not be surprised he rings daa and negotiates a 20 minute slot to save face

We are listening fateen no limo for you to plane if you go over....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,197 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

I think the only time Joe rings the DAA is to forward book slots in their VIP lounge 😉

After not hearing his dulcet tones for a while, his return to the airwaves yesterday just serves to remind you what a bumbling spluttering inept broadcaster he actually is.

You are a khaki coloured bombardier, it's Hiroshima that you're nearing.

Might miss the show today, going to be experiencing Q"s of a different sort at our wonderful health service, tomorrow too 🙄, might just bring a Tent, so to speak and camp over night 😉 (Can I say Camp 🤔)

I do be in Barcelona so to speak at the moment. I was in a restaurant last night and the waitress did learn to speak English in Dubalin a few summers ago. She asked me when I arrived and I said “yesterday” so she asked me how bad was the airport? It made the papers and the tv here. Sums up Duffy really; Spanish TV covered the topic more than Joe did to allow him to concentrate on the topic that dominated all conversations over the weekend - panic attacks.

    Caller-driven show me hoop.

Sky news just broadcast Live from the airport, pity they weren't there Sunday 😉

ya can always stick earbuds & listen to Joe’s belches to pass de toime 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,829 ✭✭✭✭Dan Jaman

I distinctly heard a fart in the squeaky cushion.

    Terribly sensitive, those mics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,197 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

Indeed but I fear the Use of Ear buds and high frequency of Joe's farting, wheezing, spontaneous wows and belching could burst me eardrums so to speak.
