Can you travel up to Dublin to get them on the same day or is this system gone?

Well, FINALLY, I got through on the WebChat this morning after trying for days and days. I'm not much the wiser. They guy said he would prioritise my application as it is now past its estimated issue date. I don't know if that was said just to make me feel better or if something will really happen. I am completely convinced that the progress tracker is totally meaningless. My application went through all the stages, supposedly, and the progress tracker bar was full on 4th May, after which they reversed it by about a quarter of the way along, where it has been stuck for the last 2 weeks. However, even though it's supposed to have gone through the "verifying your documents" stage 3 of processing to stage 4 which is Processing Application, the guy on WebChat said my documents haven't yet been checked and my witness hasn't been contacted. I knew the latter because my witness said she'd text me once she'd been contacted. The guy on WebChat said they always contact the witness. I asked what happens if the witness is out of the office (my witness is going away for a week at the start of June) and he said I might be asked for a new witness!!!!

The WebChat guy actually ended the chat! He said he'd given me all the info he had and was ending the chat as he couldn't tell me anything more and he ignored my last question. So, honestly, people, I don't think it's worth the time and hassle trying to get through on WebChat. Maybe if you could get through on the phone and speak to an actual person that might be better.....I don't know. But the whole system is broken.

What is the point of a progress tracker that doesn't bear any relation to reality?

I got them on the phone today too after days of trying. The process tracker just moves by itself, it doesn't actually mean you have passes certain stages. When did you 1st apply, is it a renewal or FTP?

First time application. Applied online on 8th March. On 18th March Tracker said they'd received our documents. Estimated issue date was given as 4th May - which is now 14 days ago. When you ask the WebChat person if the documents sent in are acceptable/ok you just get a general answer like, "There are no issues flagged at the moment. If any further clarification is required you will be emailed." This proves that the Stage 3 of the tracker doesn't mean what it says when it says 'we have received your supporting documents and are now verifying them." They are doing no such thing as the WebChat guy told me this morning that my documents have't been looked at yet, even though my application is now at stage 4!

I asked what it means that after the estimated issue date had passed my progress tracker reversed and is now sitting, stuck, about 3 quarters of the way along and the answer I got was, "It means that there is no revised issue date!" Well, duh! I think I could have worked that out. When I asked why there was no revised issue date I was told they had no more info to give me and they were ending the chat!

I think the 'Processing' stage of the online tracker is just a timer, progressing slowly towards the estimated date. My estimated date was next week, but it went into 'Printing' 2 days ago and received passport yesterday

The 10th commandment: "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house etc.... nor anything that is thy neighbour's." I'm trying hard here not to covet your passport! I'm happy for you that you've finally got your hands on it.....and in advance of the estimated date too! That's great! Was yours a first time application or a renewal?

    Hi.

If you apply in advance for a passport renewal ie where there is still two months remaining on old one is that passport still valid until exact date that new passport is issued.

    Thanks.

They cancel the old one when the new one is issued. Standard renewal should take between 20-72 hours so shouldn't be an issue.

    Hi,

I managed to mess up the online application with the first name and surname reversed. Is it possible to change that back myself somehow or do I have to wait for them to contact me to correct my mistake?

    Thanks.

Hi, You contact them and they send you a resubmission link, if you wait for them to contact you, you will be waiting months

Ours finally got approved on Friday and then dispatched yesterday (Sunday). We have the tracking numbers but no info showing on the An Post website yet. Does anyone know how long this info takes to get through? Also who actually delivers the passports in the UK? We're due to fly out 8.15am tomorrow so just clinging onto the hope we can get them today...

Maybe it’ll be different for you, but an application I’m looking after is the same but the postman didn’t have it this morning so likely tomorrow before it’s delivered

Thanks for the help. One more question hopefully, does anyone know if someone else can pick up the four day turnaround passport for you or do you need to pick it up in person. I would of course be attending the passport office in person initially.

I wouldn’t imagine you’d need to do anything if your a first time it’ll be obvious when being checked and they’ll correct it, renewal or first time?

The An Post tracker didn't update until 2am to say they had our passports and 5am to say they had left Dublin... Praying they make it here tomorrow as we've moved our flights to Thursday

    Hi,

I applied for a child passport renewal online last week, at the end of the application I was told I would be sent an email containing a parental consent form. Neither my wife or I have received any such email (both our email addresses were provided during the renewal application). Does anyone know how long it takes to be sent this email? Application can't proceed without the parental consent form. Had assumed it would have been much quicker, the fee for the renewal was taken instantly!

Can I download the form elsewhere, haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I got an email like this. I don't know how long it took, but I presume it was sent as soon as I clicked submit. The consent form is not actually attached with the email, but there is a link to access it, "Reprint Generated Passport Consent Form". But in my case, I had already printed the consent form earlier during the online process.

    Application Number: XXXXXXXXXXX

    Dear XXXXX XXXXX,

Flying to London in a few weeks. Still waiting on the 4 year olds passport to come through. Worried it won’t come in time. Does anyone know can you bring a child to England without a Passport? Will a birth cert suffice? We are flying British Airways if that makes a difference? I know Ryanair insist on Passports. We all have them bar the 4 year old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,215 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

No need for a young child, or any Irish citizen, to have a passport going to the UK on any airline other than Ryanair. You don't need one legally, Ryanair just have their own rules.

Hi Thanks for the reply. Will I need some sort of identification though like a birth cert? Obviously I don’t have photo ID for him.

When did you apply initially?, and when was your estimated Issue date.? Ours is the 31st of May but we have flights to travel on the 30th so praying they go to print today. Local TD made representations on our part and was confident we would get them this week but so far no update.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 cnmff

I originally applied in March - estimated issue date was 27th then moved to 31st so I phoned daily, got TD's involved and Senator, went into the office 3 times, then yesterday it went to print. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for the update, Mine just went to print at the 11.20 update delighted. Assume they should arrive now before Monday. Oh the stress of it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 Giotto3

Oh the stress of it all is right! And then, one you've been fortunate enough to get your hands on the passport you might have the added stress, depending on where you're going, of paying and waiting to see if you test negative within 48 or 24 hours of your intended departure! Hope you get away!

Just to let you know mine updated to dispatched on the 19.20 update this evening and I now have my tracker number so hoping for delivery tomorrow fingers crossed! Positive thoughts!
