    Enough to prevent a fight breaking out.

    It's an area subject to huge crowds, it should have a permanent security presence that is so overt that it prevents this.

    Not when they go en masse to costa del sol they all fly together thence they all fight together and family fueds are brought up. I always feel sorry for the irish family who have saved for their annuall holiday and are faced with this before the flight even takes off. We can blame Ryanair for this of course. You can no longer escape this unless you choose to go to more exclusive places and rent a private villa the only way as these lovely folk practicing their boxing skills are also in the same apartments so it doesnt end . They can single handedly ruin a holiday. Best holiday is to grab a few friends and hire a villa & a car and have a super hoiliday own pool bbQ area and privacy ! The fighting at the airport can be forgotten until the return flight !!

    The security staff in question need to be subjected to disciplinary action,

    as to why no response was made to the fighting.


    The other people who got involved in the barney... were they innocent members of the public trying to break it up?

    Anyone heard any mention of this incident in the main media today..? Spare me the crap about discussing an ongoing case. The evidence is all there. Or are we far too concerned with some non event 3000 miles away in Texas..?

    To be fair to the gardai I'm sure once it could be verified that said incident wasn't being done by a member of an esteemed ethnic nomadic group indigenous to this island, they would be straight in it.

    Is it not that they attended AFTER the incident? Going by all the different videos doing the rounds the various fights went on for a good 5 to 10mins.

    It is pathetic that security and gardai didnt respond to the brawl and put a stop to it before that. Its our national airport ffs.

    But I guess when airport management queue dont provide sufficient security staff, queue people on top of each other for weeks on end, and queue people out the door and turn the airport into a huge clusterf**k this is the kind of incident that we shouldnt be one bit surprised about.

    Remember how quick the authorities were to set up checkpoints on the way to the airport, and have inspectors questioning people in the airport?

    All to try and find someone who might be on the PUP going away for a few days.

    No shortage of resources then eh?

    Completely Agree. Anyone on the ground who has their head stamped is at risk of absolute carnage to their brain. Every 10 year old knows how that goes. Its why we crush cans like that before recycling. Immediate attempted murder charge in my opinion.

    Stuttering his way through that interview and wouldn't answer why it took gardai so long to get there especially as the minister for justice was on earlier bigging up how she has opened a garda station in the airport. Wonder if there is anyone actually in the station?

    To all the smart arse clowns like the above, here are some actual facts.

    Gardai aren't responsible for policing the inside of the airport. It's airport police. Gardai are there in a supportive role and wouldn't be inside the airport terminals unless requested.

    As to where the "50 gardai" were. Well they work across shifts and units funnily enough. There may have been maximum 10 gardai on duty in the airport at the time of the incident. And based in a station within the airport that may take at least 5 minutes to get to from the time they were called, at which point the incident was effectively over.

    I think the issue of lack of airport police to break it up is a question for the DAA.

    For gardai attending from outside the airport well obviously they werent going to get there in time.

    But don't let the facts get in the way of your thanks whoring.

    Do the airport police have the same powers as Gardai?

    Are they trained in making arrest, getting physical?


    Tell ye, when you been through Paris CDG, or Frankfurt airports,

    the police are properly tooled up, like special forces.

    The airport police are a bad joke tbh. If they're not willing or able to deal with incidents such as this then hand over policing and patrolling of the airport terminals to gardai

    People who are very entitled to question why a major brawl wasnt promptly responded to in our national airport are not "Smart arse clowns"

    People are very entitled to ask questions, but you class them as engaging in "thanks whoring".

    Maybe take a look at your own response to all this eh? Trying to sweep it under the carpet doesnt bode well for such incidents in the future now does it?

    I don't believe that to be the case. Dublin Airport Police are a very specialised force who deal with byelaws relevant to the airport and are also trained in firefighting / public safety and first responding.

    An incident of this nature is beyond the remit of Airport Police and needs Gardaí with experience of public order policing and use of force against non-compliant people.

    As has been pointed out here, other European nations' large airports have a visible armed police or army presence spread throughout the airport. They wear earpieces and are backed by CCTV so, when something goes down, they react quickly and are not far away. I have seen it with my own eyes in Stansted, Gatwick. In Paris CDG, they were wearing camouflage.

    The truth is that it should have been possible to identify these men as a potential risk prior to any trouble starting, and resources should have been deployed close to the area.

    they have full police powers in the airport. as somebody else said the issue of the slow response is down to the airport police not the gardai. From the Dublin Airport Police webpage

    Our duties also include responding to emergency situations, traffic management and dealing with the preservation of good order to ensure all users of State airports can enjoy a safe environment while working or travelling through the airports

    they certainly failed at that in this incident.
