I thought Ingmar Bergman's films were bleak, but Rainer Werner Fassbinder films really depress. For me, In a year of 13 moons is his best, but you would need to be in the right frame for it, or any of his films for that matter. His films aren't to everyone's taste but I appreciate them. The merchant of four seasons, The bitter tears of Petra Von Kant, Fear of fear, Ali: fears eats the the soul, World on a wire, and Why Does Herr R. Run Amok? are for me his best. The dialogue may not be as philosophical or profound as Bergman's but wow does his movies pack a punch.

Anyone else a fan of his works?

I went through a phase of watching his movies but its been years since I've done so, maybe time to revisit. Theyre pretty bleak all right. I think TG4 showed some of his films down the years, pretty sure that's where I saw Fear Eats The Soul.
