Yep, ref decided in the last segment of the game rucks we’re a free for all.

    We should have adapted.

thought the ref was very inconsistent

This was the turning point. A penalty exit here and line out well into Toulouse half could have been have a big moment. Certainly one or two big decisions went against them. I even thought ball was kicked out before clock went 80 also. Not that they were going to score from their own line…. ultimately Ulster desperately unlucky to even be playing Toulouse given they were second seeds. That’s life….

It was a free for all until he decided it wasn't and started pinging Ulster 🤷‍♂️

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Vagaries of the breakdown once again determining a game. Hume could easily have had a penalty in the last 5 and that turnover by Toulouse on their 10 was aided by one of their players not rolling.

People can say Ulster didn't do enough to finish it out but it's a bit bloody difficult when seemingly arbitrary calls are given against you.

    Gutted.

It blows my mind that that passage of play under their posts at the end didn’t result in a penalty to us.

Looked to be holding on but Carley, for whatever reason, wasn't giving it.

Hard luck to Ulster. They played well but lacking that little bit of game management to close it out. The clearance kick at the end that went into touch but didn't go into the stand /dead was a crucial moment as it allowed Toulouse to take the quick throw in at a time their lineout was struggling.

Some of the ref calls were strange. I thought Lowry could have seen at least yellow. He did contest the ball and have his hands on it but you can't take out the legs of the player. Either get up high enough or don't jump.

On the other hand I thought Tom O'Toole's red wasn't even a foul. His chest is square to the attacking player Jelonch (who actually leads with his shoulder). The game is becoming a bit of a lottery with these red cards for high hits especially where the hit is being taken on the chest and then goes onto the head. In fairness they are trying to get players to tackle lower and players will have to learn to do that.

The Ulster scrum was very good tonight. Warwick and Moore have put their hand up for NZ and we have incredible depth at hooker when Herring is 3rd choice.

Toulouse are a top quality side. For me they are number 1 in Europe and after a poor season look to be hitting form slowly. If those passes stick and a dry pitch they will be hard to stop. I just can't see Munster turning them over in Thomond.

A couple of quality quarters to look forward to now. Leinster away to Leicester is a real contest too.

Ulster should have seen that out. Brave performance but going by the red in the first leg I thought ulster were lucky not to get one for the same stuff on 2 occasions. Herring was more deserving of the red then otoole imo

Also to point out that O'Toole was red carded for an apparent high force tackle to the face that didn't even result in an HIA.

To me this is very questionable.

Herring's tackle looked far worse imo, I was shocked the ref dismissed it so quickly

There's no disgrace in losing to this Toulouse side, but we could have done it. And we won't get a quarter final as easy as this Munster team at home any time soon

Yep, the TOT red card was fair enough but he made some effort at a legitimate tackle. Herring just dropped the shoulder.

Not sure a team can just adapt to free for all rucks with 10 minutes to go, far too risky.

It shows how stupid the argument is for force in a tackle, a totally subjective argument.

The refs seem to give Toulouse free range at the end of games .

Ah, so that's probably why Barnes disallowed Toulouses' late try in Toulouse last weekend! Thanks for clearing that one up for me.
