It will be very expensive, likely even impossible to buy (only to rent) if / when it becomes level 4/5. Big risk to take I admit if you are likely only keeping the car for 2-3 years

So have accepted the trade in offer so happy disclose they offered just under 82K which I thought was pretty good.

will be interested to see where it gets advertised now and for how much.

    Pick up MY on Wednesday.

That's very decent. So Tesla will have to pay you cash? We were wondering how that would work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Smck1983

Yes I asked that question when I did the test drive and yes they refund the difference.

My Tesla account shows a surplus of over €2k now. Once I pick up the M3P on Thursday I believe they will email looking for account details to transfer the balance into.

have the delivery team been in touch yet? When I asked for the registration number she mentioned we wouldn’t get it until the balance was paid. When I pointed out there was a refund she asked for account details and a bank statement to prove it is your account.

I'm looking for a 10m granny charger. Ideally adjustable current but a 10a fixed one is okay too. Screwfix have one that is fixed 10a but just jumped the price up by €40 t0 €250.....Just said I'd check here first incase anyone had a spare

Beware many on ebay and adverts are 16amp fixed, not 10amp. They are labelled as 16a, but fitted with a 13amp.plug and fuse. They have no temperature sensor in the plug, so I would not advise anyone to buy a granny cable except from a known retailer or dealer. These are a serious fire risk and on sale constantly. Screwfix was typically best value and probably still great value

This one on Facebook seems to be variable, type 2, unsure on length, location Drogheda

Thanks. Still looks like one it would allow 13a from a normal plug which I agree is dangerous, not as daft as 16a form a domestic socket tho!!

Think I will ahve to go with the screwfix one but it does not have any heat sensing in the plug I confirmed with MasterPlug. It for second car so I tried out my own car yesterday at 10a in my house and socket was warming considerably. Socket was 20 years old and not sure on brand. I replaced it with a new MK socket and very little heating now.

Plan is to buy the screwfix 10a 10m cable and just replace the garage socket in mother-in-laws with a brand new mk socket too

    I have a rarely used 16amp type 2 cable for sale, 5m.

€100 ono, collect from Blessington or i can dhl at cost with transfer done first.

bought from Phil at electric autos, reading of his closure reminded me I had it in the garage.

Does anyone have a spare OBD-II dongle that works with CanZE by any chance?

I've tried tried two KONWEII KW902s and an OBDLink LX and neither of them worked.

I'm having a charging issue with a Renault Zoe and would love to get CanZe working so I can figure out what is going on.

Where are you based? What phone do you have Android or iPhone? Best to get someone with working one to meet up.

I'm based in Leinster. Have an Android phone. Yeah if you know of anyone with one that works that would be a great help.

I used an app called Bluetooth Terminal and it wasn't responding to any commands that I sent it.

Spent a good day trying but failing to get it paired.

I test drove an ex-demo 221 ionq 5 Executive Plus 58kw in white 3200km  yesterday but decided I'd hold out for the Airya. Dublin based dealer looking for €43995 , he said only became available yesterday morning so I'd say it'll sell fast. I'm not affiliated in anyway with dealership but I thought there could be some on here who might be interested so can send details by PM.

Sure that is cheap from Tesla for a 32 amp, seem to be much more expensive elsewhere.

I don’t need my 16amp 5m so it’s now €50 up front inc dhl overnight anywhere in the south - can’t be collected by dhl until Tuesday next week, or collect from Blessington for €40 anytime.

That makes it the cheapest type 2 cable I have yet seen, carbuncle. Nice one :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭carbuncle

That does seem very cheap for new from Tesla though, I wonder why.

on a very quick look people are asking at least €170 and some well over €200 for the same type of cable.

mines is a 16 amp, bought in error to be fair!

It hardly seems worthwhile them selling them here for that, they won’t be selling thousands or probably even hundreds per year - most new cars are supplied with one so the market must be tiny in Ireland.

well some miserable feckers like Honda offer the choice of type 2 or granny, maybe some of the other manufacturers are the same

Is it the same as the one they supply with new teslas?

Tesla just do bargains sometimes. The CHAdeMO adapter for years went second hand for €300-€500 on eBay and now you can get one for €99 from Tesla. Including shipping. I'd say that might be below cost. There might be a strategy behind it. Buy now we want to get rid of existing stock. Once sold out, we won't make them anymore and you will have to get your older Tesla upgraded to CCS. Or something like that.

Its the price all these cables should be, its only 4 meters of cable and 2 bits of plastic, same with the wall chargers, nothing but a glorified box with a relay switch, 300 euro max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭carbuncle

its cheap to sell things on the web so I suppose even if they had 20 around the cost of sale is not much for Tesla, and as you say at least than cost better to sell

i buy cable and connectors of various types for my business and for quality items for ev cables to be used a lot, dropped etc, too cheap might mean replacing often.

I agree re charge points. you can get basic ones new for just over €200 and that’s all you really need if you have working timers in your car and use night rate. Again though too cheap and the weather will get them and relays may burn out.

I got a new tethered zappi in 2019 for €590 inc. vat from electric autos but now they are €1,000 - they are a good bit more complicated with functions for solar of course. I bought mine with the intention of using solar pv and without doing the maths but I have still to install panels - net after install and grant was around €200

a cheap dumb point inc easy install and e stop could be done for zero after grant, a zappi for solar would cost at least €600 more. If you got 10kwh of excess free solar a day for 150 days a year and you were paying 10c a unit nightrate that’s at least 4 years to pay for the extra for the zappi - and I doubt many would hit that solar generation for 150 days for the car, and a decent fit might make it not worthwhile at all or at least increase payback

my brother went for it anyway for the craic and as I have mine of course I will use it when I get the panels up - until a fit comes in at more than night rate! (Never)

Yep couldn't agree more. And that is a very optimistic scenario for the vast majority of people who get Zappis installed. And don't forget your car has to be at home and plugged in to be charged too, so there is a lot of discipline involved too. I got the free charge point install under the old system back in 2017. I've done the sums upgrading to a Zappi and even if I got a second hand one for €400 and did the install myself (with help of my mate the electrician), it wouldn't make financial sense.

I'm all for renewables, I have a sh1t ton of PV myself. And there is an argument to get them even if the money doesn't make sense, there is more to it than money. But let's be honest about the sums to make an informed decision...
