That one is grid constrained so once again, ESBN Anna needs to get her finger out.

“When purchasing a new Nissan Charge subscription, future customers of Nissan Ariya and Townstar EV will receive lower pricing rates when accessing IONITY's charging stations through the Nissan Charge app”

Wasn’t sure if this should go here or the Ariya thread

Interesting that they've partnered with Plugsurfing to deliver the service, most of the others seem to go with Digital Charging Solutions.

Just to update on "Charge and Fuel" Ionity pack, I heard back from support confirming that my application is still in progress. Seems to be a long, manual approval process. Also, speaking German helps as the support is coming from a German speaking contact center, and the documents provided are in German too.

Any word on if Charger #2 is repaired yet at this location (M1 City North / Ionity)?

Was there for the first time about a week ago and thi charger was out of order (called support and they said the last charge from there was about a month prior)

One working charger at the location is a real bottleneck for a normally busy site.

Would be really nice if Ionity came out and announced a few new sites here.....

I've still yet to even use Ionity, but would happily do so if they put one on the M9 close to Waterford..

Another poster was making the point that the Tesla "fanboys" were all saying how great the SuC is when they give out a paltry 250kw compared to Ionity.

Then you read here that one of the chargers is broken over a month at a site. You also read that the one in Cashel is ICE'd half the time. Add in the extortionate pricing structure to use them.

Do you know what? I'll stick to being a "fanboy" and I'll take the reasonably decent charging speeds of the SuC, the ease of use and the availability of the sites before they are opened to every Tom, Dick and Harry.

The headline figure price of 0.79 cents per kwh is indeed ludicrous.

But I understand that if regularly using Ionity you can lower that via subscription etc.

I regularly because obviously if you only pass Ionity once a year then you don't really benefit from taking out a subscription.

You can get a per kWh rate of 35c for the cost of a monthly sub costing the price of 51.4 kWh at that rate (and the sub doesn't include any actual juice credits either). And that sub has to be across the entire year. I'm sure there are people who live convenient enough to an Ionity charger that those numbers might work out, but for anybody looking to augment, say, usage of a bunch of ESB chargers (maybe on their own sub of a fiver) and perhaps Tesla Superchargers, it just isn't a good proposition. Once you factor in the cost of the subscription, the true per-unit price remains pretty high at all but the most frequent usage levels.

Used Ionity Athlone today for the first time. All 4 spots empty. Started the charge from the app, worked no problem. I’d use them again even with the high price as it’s not a SPOF unlike Applegreen Enfield on the Galway / Dublin trip.

Walked over to the “free” circle K charger to confirm it’s still broken.

The Ionity subscription model has become a bit more attractive given the eCars price hike. If only it wasn’t a 12 month lock in.

Does anyone know if the WeCharge VW sub is also 12 month minimum?

There must be some pressure on Ionity to drop prices in the countries that Tesla have opened up the network. I think in general the basic rate for Tesla is 20c cheaper?

Of course Tesla might not want to keep that pricing, with electricity prices going up they're soon to be one of the cheapest networks at those rates

Yep, the WeCharge was a 12 month sub when I looked into it.

For me, the nearest Ionity is close enough to make sense but is the CityNorth one that is electricity supply constrained (only two active chraging stalls, one broken - but pedestals for up to four more). The subscription pays off, in that it's cheaper for the charge and sub than the headline rate, if my back of the napkin maths are right after about 55-60Kw range.

On an aisde, spoke to Ionity again today and they 'will have someone check the broken unit' - let's see how long that takes :-)

There was talk a few months ago of the mycharge free subscription being announced in March for new Hyundais…. I’m guessing nothing came of that!?!

The great thing about owning a Tesla is that you don't need to choose between the Suc network and Ionity. You can use both.

Just be aware that there's no access to the Knocktopher charger overnight - I found this out on my way back from Dublin with about 25 km of range on my GOM - I had to hypermile the whole way back to Waterford. Poor form from the garage, and not indicated on the E-Cars app.

Is that an ESB charger or a 3rd party one?

I wouldn't trust the 3rd party ones unless I'd no other option

    Good to know..

last time I took on a bit of a top up in Kilcullen on the way down, and again down there in Bolton St (just because it was available), and that was enough to get me out to Passage, and then back up to Kilcullen.

1 DC charger in the region of Waterford City is just brutal.

Just been there this morning - Ionity CityNorth - ABB van on-site repairing stall #2.

Hopefully back up and running by the end of today.

    Random other question:

Why do Ionity Chargers have the wrong ID and QR code on the stalls?

    • In City North, where there are only two stalls, stall 1 (with a number one clearly on it) has the QR code and ID for stall 2, and vice versa
    • In Athlone, there are four stalls and not one of them has the correct ID / QR code on it.

Is it possible to get an RFID card from Ionity Passport instead of faffing with the app with this nonsense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,401 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

Grand - that's answered the RFID card (which is a pity), but at least it's a defninitive answer.

The sticker thing is bizarre, though - what's the point in putting them with helpful QR codes, but on the wrong boxes. 🤔

Up there, I'm discovering, with Ionity stupidity is their charging scheme.

For a €17 charge they'll put it through twice - one for €17 and a block for €16 - taking €33 from your card.

But, don't worry, they haven't double charged you. You'll get the blocked funds back in up to four weeks.

What sort of backwards system are they using. Even ecars can handle payment transactions properly - you use €17, you pay €17

Thinking about getting a newer car with faster charging CCS & bigger battery. Trying to learn the ionity infrastructure currently in place and in the works. I land here with a 67 page (!) discussion/argument among season Ev'ers using lots of TLA's. It's so hard to find out whether I'll be able to take potentially a new car with 300km motorway range, from Dublin to Ballyliffen, Donegal for example, something hassle free in an ICE. Ionity's own website seems to indicate that's a big fat "No" on their side. How would you planing this journey at the moment?

Using Ionity, that would be a 'no'. I tried using ABRP and it suggested a stop near Strabane - although, I've not tried northern ireland for a road trip yet. This is also based off a new Model 3 RWD (standard), your mileage may literally vary.

I think Monaghan is in the process of being upgraded to a Tier 3 site (150kW + 50kW units), so if thats the case, that would me my preferred option if going to Derry/Donegal.... slower roads too that way meaning less battery used on the route overall.

A few more strategically placed hubs and the entire country would be covered.. Being an island, we are the low hanging fruit of the EV charging world!!

Ionity have promised more sites, Tesla are delivering more sites (and are actively seeking out new sites), and eCars are eCars, so maybe 10-15 years into the future they'll deliver a network worthy of 2022!!

ABRP - googled this. Big improvement over google. Thanks.

Used ABRP with the car I'm looking at. Two charging sessions totalling 90 minutes on a 50kw charger is required. They are the only chargers in the area so the changes of them being free when I arrive is poor. Travelling from Dublin to Ballyliffen or to any of the Donegal golf courses and hoping to make your tee time seems like wishful thinking.
