One radiator in my house won’t come on anymore, tried bleeding it, no difference

Hi,

As the topic says, the radiator in my office used to work but has stopped working all of a sudden, all the other radiators work fine. I’ve tried bleeding it but it didn’t make any difference, water came out within seconds.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it ?, thanks in advance.

Does it have a thermostatic valve on it?

There may be air in one of the 2 pipes feeding the radiator - airlocked

You could unscrew and remove the thermostatic top part- the part that rotates to adjust the temperature as seen in the photo below

If you take off this top rotating nob, the other part of the valve will be open and the rad should get hot.

if it doesn’t- then there is an airlock in one if the 2 pipes supply the rad.

All the YouTube videos I saw said to bleed the radiator which made no difference.

Thanks, it is a thermostatic valve, I’ll try that later.

Opened up the thermostat valve, the pin was up, tried wiggling it with a long nose plyers but no luck. Was going to hit it with a hammer but I saw another video saying not to do that, does the pin have to go down for the radiator to come on ?, cause it looks like its stuck in the up position.

When the pin is up the Valve is open and the hot water should flow through the rad.

If it doesn’t and you have bled the rad then it looks like an Airlock in the piping.

The heating system might not be balanced. There are two valves on each rad, the in valve and the out one. If the out valve in some of the rads are too wide open then there might not be the proper pressure in the heating system to heat that radiator.

Close the out valve fully and then open it a quarter turn and see if it starts to warm up. If that doesn't work it could be one of the other rads that needs to be balanced
