Was supposed to have my NBI order installed today with eir but heard nothing

    Waited almost 2 months

Very disappointed and I think I'll cancel and head else where.

That really such a let down when your looking forward to getting it for so long.

They put a DP on the pole with the loop the other day. So the loop is gone now too 👍 progress

Wexford DA went pre-order as of 28 Feb which is interesting given there appears to be more ducting needed along R730 north of Killurin for example. That would have adjusted the numbers mentioned by other posters by about 3500.

Saw TLI working in a duct outside the the Tipp Town plaza this morning. If they're still pulling fibre (even if they're that close to the exchange), I can't see them hitting the March 21st 90-day pre-order deadline.

You might be surprised they might. I drove out by carron the other day and saw them putting DP on poles near the bridge.

Honestly this, there's still ducting at various parts just wound up at the bottom of about 3 poles along the N24 after Monard, 2 outside of Monard and 1 outside of Oola.

Circet came out today to install the broadband. Find out that we need a pole to come across from the box literally directly across the road 20 meters from the house. Need to put in an order for a pole to be placed in the garden.

Some how feel NBI could have taken houses into consideration when they were "planning layouts". Frustrating, must wait a while longer now.

its impossible to take all houses into consideration. Anyway if its possible they can go a pole either side of the DP to access the house oif that was possible. I suspect that the fibre would be too low going accross the road

Yeah it is, we have 2 poles near the house. One is an ESB one that they cannot touch and the other is a default one that was supposedly meant to be taken down 2-3 years ago according to Circet. The fellow that came was just as frustrated as we were because it puts more delays on them when they could have told. Also, they have images of houses dating back to 2019..... The house didn't exist in 2019, how can Circet work off of images that are so old. So unless anyone has experienced this and have successfully got the broadband in, what were the stages?

What we were told is that, we should get a call somewhat today as the lads that do it are efficient at "poling", and it will be 8 days or so before they are back, he wasn't really clear on what was going to happen.

It's a pity that can't ask 2 simple questions during the order:

    1. Is the DP pole located on the opposite side of the road to the premises?
    2. Is the house a bungalow?

Answering yes to both of the above should raise flags on the Circet side of things.

It really does make you wonder what was going on during the surveying phase. Surely if they sent people around house to house then the person doing it should be capable of seeing these issues and flagging them as part of the survey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭heavydawson

If the DP pole is new (not replacing an existing pole), then it wouldn't have been part of the original survey I guess. I know when they came to my house, they just asked if our existing telephone wire came to the house via duct from the road (it did). I'm dreading the day they finally come to install as I've no idea what state the duct is in and rooting it up would be a massive job.

Don't worry too much about it. My duct had a slight blockage and they got another team to come and fix it. Apparently they have a civils team in the area when they are doing installs and call them for minor issues.

I have similar concerns - The ducting carrying my current land-line cabling has been in situ for ~16 years and I'd guess it's full of various kinds of detritus.

The one possible positive for me is that it runs up quite a steep hill from the road to the house , so hopefully that means that most of it is pretty clear.

So they can hopefully just send the Telco version of dyno-rod to clear out the ducting rather than having to dig it out etc.

Surveying just started where I am, 10 minutes outside Clonakilty in Cork. I am thinking 2 years from now is probably a reasonable guess as to when it will be ready to install?

This has probably been answered elsewhere, but do the DA boundary maps get tweaked during surveying? I'm in an area where there are three just-about overlapping DAs, each with wildly different timelines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭heavydawson

Yes, premises can be moved from one DA to another

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭Nolars

Seen a few bits around midleton DA march - may 2022 from airwave so chanced them they came back with this, Currently the pre-order date is not specified just yet

We have started to see some areas in East cork start to open for example Templenacarriga / Walshtown

So it should be in the next few weeks.

I am with airwaves existing wisp product, and have tonsay they offer an excellent service within the constraints of fact it is a wireless network, so will probably stick with them when switching to fibre.

Is the DA that a property is assigned to not linked to the exchange they are connected to , or is NBI completely independent of that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭heavydawson

Ultimately it is, but NBI can decide that they will connect your premises via fibre to a different exchange, and hence DA. (Even if you had a copper phone line that already connects to a different exchange). I'm not certain of the reasons a DA change might happen. Others on here may be.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 16,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

In my case , there's only the one DA that I could be in but in terms of the legacy exchanges I'm right on the edge of two - My next door neighbour less than 25 yards away is not only connected to a different exchange , they are in an entirely different area code to me!

Might impact rollout schedule I guess ,but we'll have to see.

Open-eir's fibre network is based around its legacy copper network of maybe around 1,000 exchanges (don't know the exact figure).

NBI can be more efficient with infrastructure as they are starting from scratch and only require 227-230 exchanges for their nationwide network with a mix of enet and open-eir exchanges.
