It is if you flood the bathroom.

I would expect €100 + the cost of the taps. I imagine a pair of taps can vary from €20 to €1,000.

I really is a 15 minute job.

I has to do exactly this 3 or 4 weeks ago because I could not get a plumber. I bought the taps from B&Q and replaced them myself. It was really easy to do. The only tools required is a spanner. It helped that there was a shut off value on the pipe leading to the tap. Youtube also has loads of videos for doing this kind of work.

At €250/15minutes, it might be cheaper to get a Barrister to do it for you.

in the best case scenario I'm sure it could be done in 15 minutes. if not it can be considerably more especially if there is no shutoff valve locally and a saw is required to remove the rusted fitting..

The thing is you only have this one experience to go on. Plumbers know that taps can run into several hours when things go wrong. I've had to cut taps off with a hacksaw blade when everything is seized underneath. Couldn't use a hacksaw in case I marked the basin. Just a blade. Sometimes you have to drain down the cold water tank because the valves are broken.

There is no denying that if everything goes your way that it's not a difficult job. Tradesmen have to quote over the phone so have to build in the risk of it going pear shaped.

I have to admit that if I was a plumber in Ireland right now, I too would charge as much as I could. There is after all, a massive shortage of tradespeople right now. Make money now - you don't know when it'll all collapse.

I'm not blaming plumbers.

I guess my case was a best case scenario. If it wasn't, I guess I'd have no choice but to also get the hacksaw blades out.
