They really are a joke of a bookies.

    Mayo by 1-5 at 5/2

They're showing up for me e.g. 27.5 for Mon v Arm, 31.5 for Mayo v Dub

I actually think Boyles are by far the best for gaa betting

Boyles are very good usually for GAA but a **** nightmare to deal with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,717 ✭✭✭robbiezero

They had them up yesterday but took them down again this morning until about 1. Must have got word someone was planning to bet a fiver on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,717 ✭✭✭robbiezero

They have good odds but they get absolutely terrified of losing a few quid.

Any bet over 100 could have them ringing traders etc and the line or odds changed.

They are a waste of space online too. Any sort of wins and you are restricted really quickly

Big drift on waterford before kick off went from 10/11 to 6/5 currently getting a whipping somebody knew something

Derry v Cork looks a bit of an outlier at 28.5 with bet365.

    The others are all 24.5.

    Whats weather like up there?

Is there a definitive GAA match report for the Dublin Mayo match the last night?

I had 20 on Jack Carney to score 1st goal at 18/1. Went in off the post and Comerford's head as most of you would have seen. An OG.

However, match report on gaa.ie has the goal marked as Carney's, but is this 'official'? Few other outlets had it as Carney's, few others had it as an OG

PP obviously ruled it as an OG as they paid out on Orme as the 1st goalscorer.

Queried this on Saturday night and again last night. When I queried this last night, they said that if the report on gaa.ie stayed up for 48 hours from the end of the match, they would pay up (I have this on the chat thingee).

This evening they refused but offered me a 10er, which I didn't take.

Soccer has OPTA stats, but what have the GAA?

    It's a weird one.

Firstly, the goal is 100% an OG. I think Comerford even saves it and that's why it hits the post, hits him and goes in.

But, the GAA website and match report has Jack down for the goal in the "Mayo scorers" piece at the end of the report. So if PP said they would honour that, I'd get onto them again.

Annoyingly for you, they also have this in the main part of the report "There was a touch of fortune about Mayo's first goal as Carney's initial strike came off the foot of the post before cannoning off the back of the head of Dublin goalkeeper Evan Comerford".

It's a bit all over the shop but you could spend a bit of time pestering them and see if they pay you out. But imo, you'd be relying on a "good will gesture" to pay out because it was definitely an OG and you said they've already paid out on Orme being Fgs.

GAA have their own in-house team unfortunately, so don't use an external provider like Opta. Hence why you don't see any decent markets on PP bar the usual win/loss or handicap bets (and 1st scorer etc.)

I've pleaded with GAA previously (own a small data provider for GAA) to use us for a free trial of our data etc but they don't have any interest in it. It's frustrating, as every single major sporting organisation now uses one. Either way, the definition of what's a goal/own-goal is at the GAA's discretion, even if an external provider was coding their matches. GAA could tell them to not use own-goals.

So in the end, GAA is official here. What happens quite a bit in some sports is some betting companies will use a data provider. That data provider might not be the official provider to that league though, so generally in live play, they might credit a goal to a certain player. If 'official' then has it as someone else x hours after the match ends, that data provider will amend on their side (even if it goes against their definitions).

So this is down to the betting company now. I don't believe they have anywhere that they 'match GAA's decisions indefinitely' which can lead to issues like this. However, at least it looks like they will pay out in this case. One to keep an eye on going forward.

Thanks for the replies and some great information there!

So I am awaiting an email from PaddyPower complaints division (or something like that) but they won't pay out. Mate of mine - local paper editor - wants to write a snippet on it but I'm not really sure I want the attention. Mayo papers wrote of Carney as the 1st scorer but that would be expected.

Think I'll use some of your info Callaway in my reply to their next email, see how I get on.

    Ya do, do.

You should be pushing PP here for payout if the GAA have him as a goalscorer. It's likely what would happen is PP should be reaching out to GAA directly themselves.

Again though, they may well have in their TCs and Cs that they settle GAA bets at their own discretion which would kill any say that you have in things and would be down to goodwill on their side to pay out.

Difference in this compared to PP with opta for example is Opta would be sending the data live via API updates to PP and the bets would automatically settle then (hence sometimes payouts being done on a goal happening even if varred out) because the update from the data provider triggered the payout (bet success etc). In this case for GAA, PP settle these bets themselves.

Thanks to both of you for the advice.

After more back and forth today I have been paid out. There really was no escape for them, considering the Rule that one of the managers had sent to me on Sunday which only strengthened my stance that as Carney was down as the goalscorer on the Official GAA match report, then he should be recognized as that across the board.

Further to your advice, I was talking to a mate who had trouble getting them to pay out on a golf bet he had. Only for he knew someone within, he probably would have had to jump through hoops to get his payout.

Considering the money they take in, it is shameful unscrupulous behavior on their part. 'Bookie of the People' my hole.
