The wifi on the Fritzbox is pants unless you're right next to it but from a wired connection the speed is ridiculous.

Shouldn't be, make sure you're connecting to the 5ghz radio for the fastest speeds. 5ghz doesn't have the penetration of 2.4ghz, it will only really be usable in the room the router is located. If that doesn't suit you should look into adding mesh or access points

Yeah I live in a sprawling dormer so I need the range. I might splash out on a Netgear orbi system.

I've hooked up my old tp link deco system currently but that's maxing out at just below 100Mbps.

Deffo go with mesh system. I had the same drop-off in speed with the Fritzbox. Have steady 450-540 Mbps downloads throughout the house with a mesh system. I went with the BT whole home and have four installed.

Can anyone tell me how the ISP contacts you with a date? Is it over the phone with a date and time frame?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭tipp36

It depends some will call you or send a text or email with install date and time. Eir send text and email, Vodafone KN call you.

I got a call and follow on text from Digiweb the day our Eircode went live for order. The evening before the install date I got a text from KN and the morning of the install a text from the engineer.

I got my install date for eir this morning 5th April apparently it’s not gone live yet for eir even though ready for connection on NBI site they said they have work to do at the exchange don’t know how true this is as I presumed NBI would have taken care of all this.

I also went with eir, 1gb plus mobile for 59,99 for 24 months is good value. The only disappointment is how long eir nbi orders take, i believe its down to the NBI themselves to organize appointments but even still 1 month after order when sky, vodafone customers can get it about 2 weeks after an order placement. im booked in for next tuesday anyway :)

NBI offer both Bitstream and VUA wholesale products. The Bitstream product requires no regional RSP (aka Eir) equipment in the exchanges, but the VUA product does, so it's possible Eir are still waiting to get their VUA gear in the exchange for the Tipp DA.

My jealousy levels are off the charts. Still waiting for the poor mans corner of the Tipp DA to go ready for order. 😫

It’s very good value to be fair that’s why I am wanted to go with them as have 3 mobiles with them so will be a little cheaper to bundle altogether. I was thinking that it was down to NBI for appointments but like you say rest of providers can give it within 2/3 weeks. So jealous your getting it next Tuesday 😅

That would make a lot sense now why they won’t give me install date any earlier than the 5th apr. Hopefully it might change if they get work required done quicker there. Has you’re DA not gone ready to connect yet 😲😬 I would have presumed yours would have the same day Mine changed status.

Nope, myself and a few others here are on the western ribbon of the Tipp DA that includes the n24 to Limerick and the emly Rd. I'm sure it won't be much longer....😬

Yikes 😬 hopefully not but I’d say he end of march/April before tipp DA gets fully connected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭SungSam7

Apparently we are getting connected on the 7th of March with Pure Telecom. (Lisnagaul area)

Technically the pre-order period for my Eircode ends March 21st, so they've got a few weeks left before they go over the 90 day timeframe. I was hoping it would be before then, but I'm tempering my expectations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭Magnum

Apparently its 90 days max, below is text copied from fb messenger.....

Thank you for coming back to the team at National Broadband Ireland.

Pre-order is an early opportunity to get in the queue and be one of the first to get connected, as soon as the NBI™ network build is completed in your area.

Once the area is ready for connection the pre-order will automatically convert to a full order, and your retail broadband provider will be in touch.

Shortly after your order has been placed, we will contact you to confirm an install appointment date that suits you, so that we can connect you to the NBI™ network as quickly as possible.

With that being said, normally pre-order can last a maximum of 90 days.

Please let me know if there is anything else that I can be of assistance with.

    Kind Regards,

    Liam

    Key word being:

    normally

Handy get-out if needed but I'm still optimistic they'll stick to the 90 days. I'll take another 30 days over another 4 years!

Would be really interested to know more about which providers are using Bitstream vs VUA and for what. My (admittedly simplistic) understanding is that VUA delegates a lot more responsibility/power to the ISP/RSP, and facilitates greater control over deployment of things like IPTV. @NBAiii you're usually more clued on this stuff. Can you enlighten?

That’s very fast I was going with Vodafone they did originally give me 2nd of march but then I decided to go with eir as better offer turned up for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭tipp36

Fingers crossed that will be live soon and you can get installation date for you’re BB. I’m hoping mine will be installed the 5th April with eir or sooner if they get whatever they need done in exchange.

I pre-ordered with Sky a couple of weeks ago and they gave me an install date at the beginning of July. So that's well beyond the 90 day max. I don't know if any other provider would be quicker. Digiweb couldn't give me a date..There is no fibre on poles and no black boxes yet on my road but they are working out from Gort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭WestWicklow1

That's my story exactly, right down to the provider and dates.

My understanding is that the 90 days is for pre-order only and it should not exceed 90 days. I expect my eircode to change to "Ready to Order" after a max of 90 days in the "Pre Order" state.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 flipper2009

I asked NBI about it via Facebook and they say that my Eircode is not showing up as a pre-order for Sky. What are they up to? Did you by any chance get a date of July 6th?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭NBAiii

I don't know which providers are using bitstream though I'd suspect the vast majority are. I think you're likely correct about eir using VUA as it would allow them to leverage their large nationwide network.

The main benefit I can see for eir using VUA would be cost. With bitstream there are significant charges depending on the volume of traffic on the network. With VUA they are using their own network and so avoiding these costs.

That is some pre order system. No infrastructure in place and allowing preorder that is nearly 6 months in advance

Heard there is no longer certification of the network in place by the Department of communication.
