Friday evening in lockdown, fancy a few tunes, turn on 2fm. But no, it's a sports chat show when there's no sport happening anywhere in the world to talk about.

The Spotify contract is just for their podcast isn't it? Wouldn't be remotely surprised if they are given the slot.

Tracey is miles and miles ahead of Jennifer Zampareli or the crowd doing breakfast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,413 ✭✭✭✭Hurrache

    It's a repeat of the previous night's show that's on 2XM.

agreed. jennifer is so bad. I won't even let my dogs listen to the show, same with the sports show at 6

and im no sure why ruby walsh is part of show. comes across uninterested and that it's a load of hassle for him

Tracy will suffer as she’ll be between 2 shows people have no interest in. She’ll probably get cut as a result of it

The office i work, moved from today fm due to irritating presenters - while the breakfast/Jen's show are awful, the music is good.varied and it picks up from Traceys/Jennys show...they have to really tinker with shows that dont need tinkering dont they

The rationale may have been to get on air before Off the Ball on Newstalk. But Game On is like a square peg in a round hole on 2FM at 6.00pm. Ruby hardly there since Christmas and only does two days a week when he is there. It's very poor.

That would of been Hot FM 99.4, (before being sold to FK), guessing 03 or 04, was based in Templeogue I think.

Edit: The quote didn't make the post, someone asked earlier what pirate Tracey was on

Has to be time for a serious discussion about the future of 2FM. It's now 8 full years since the youth oriented revamp began and it hasn't worked at all. Now there's chopping and changing for absolutely no reason and still no coherent approach to the schedule. Having a sports show on during peak hours, especially on Fridays is absolutely daft.

The question has to be, does RTE launch something else on its FM frequencies or do they sell it off altogether? For such a loss making organisation in the current environment, the status quo has to surely be a non runner.

It's hard to believe that it is exactly 8 years since the RTE press office were drip feeding us stuff about the new 2fm schedule that a one post account had already told us here months earlier, how time flies. Anyway, unless a political party put doing something about 2fm in their manifesto and then go on to win the next GE, nothing is likely to ever change.

hot 99.4 (or hot radio as it was at launch if i remember) came on in 2000, the original owners sold up i think then around 2001 possibly 2002.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Tracey Clifford must have been the last presenter on 2FM to have started in the pirates - the traditional route.

When Jenny Greene left 2fm for a few months in 2019, rumour was that she was in talks with 104 to rejoin the station to host the 10 to 3 show, there was massive backlash on social media at the time about 2fms decision not to allow her continue on daytimes without Nicky Byrne, so Dan Healy brought her back and give her the 3/6 shift. The thing is, ever since she came back, her shine has pretty much worn off, perhaps RTE over exposed her with those concert orchestra gigs???🤔 Her ratings on afternoon drive have been lower than Colm and Al's stint, very few people seemed to care this time about her departure from daytime, so she has no leverage this time to bag a better job. She'd probably have been better off if she took the 10 to 3 on 104 gig in 2019🤔🤔?

Her show is a bit odd in that she plays a lot of dance stuff but a lot of its is stuff from the 90s that won't appeal to a lot of the listener for a daytime show. She seems to be the only daytime presenter allowed to play a lot of her own stuff

Funnily enough, even though there was nothing in the news about Louise McSharry returning to radio, my thoughts were that it was going to be a repeat of Jenny leaving 2FM in 2019, Louise supposedly "leaving" the station and then being announced as their new drivetime host. That would have been MUCH better than those two clowns from Tipperary getting the job. In fact, it would have made up for 2FM not letting her host her final show. Pity not even Today FM have made her an offer

As for FM104, I think Jenny had outgrown the Dublin market by 2019.

There was an article out, I think it was in an interview Louise did with the Irish Independent, about how she was told to keep quiet for a few days about how she was being let go. But instead Louise posted about it online and that’s why her last shows were pulled.

I’m not saying it’s right for 2FM to do that but it’s at least an explanation from their side.

Before Jenny Greene, I think the last 2fm presenter to be moved from a peak daytime slot to late nights was Damian Farrelly, in Autumn 2006 he was moved from 12 to 2 lunchtime to 9 till Midnight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

And after this period, Nikki Hayes was the moved from weekday lunchtimes to weekend afternoons

At one stage a few years ago, a large proportion of the 2FM presenters had come from iRadio or Spin. The current crop has a relatively small number, by comparison. They are: Tracy Clifford (Spin103), Bláthnaid Treacy (Spin103), Emma Power (Spin103) and Ciara and Chris (iRadio). I don't think there are any more but I stand corrected.

I wonder are Ciara and Chris disappointed that they seem to have ran out of road at 2fm in terms of further promotion ? Back in 2015 it was rumoured that they were going to be given 9 till Noon for a crackled i type show but bosses got cold feet and scrapped the idea.

Where do the rest of them come from then? Other stations or different media types? Jennifer Z came from tv if I remember right. And you missed Doireann who went from AA Roadwatch to Spin 1038 to 2 FM.

Some of the more recent names are media types. Some of the presenters have done a bit of online radio such frq.fm. There are of course some that overlap into the different categories of experience.

Other longer established radio names currently on 2FM did start in the pirates: Dave Fanning, Dan Hegarty, Cormac Battle, Mr. Spring and Jenny Greene. The latter was with FM104 prior to 2FM.

incidentally, Emma Power, who I mentioned was with Spin103, started her radio experience with a month's work experience on Today FM and built up more experience on Wicklow's East Coast FM. Emma also did a stint on Dublin City FM. While travelling, Emma squeezed in a month's work experience on Australia's 92.9 Perth. Other RTE experience includes producer/presenter on digital station RTE Junior Radio.
