Will they move Munster/Exeter or Ulster/Toulouse to Landsdowne so for the same reason? I assume Leinster/Connacht will be there at the request of Leinster

EPCR don't always go for the biggest stadium size. R92 V Munster in 2018 was in a stadium half the capacity of Stade de France. it raises the question of what criteria they go for in fairness, not an answer I have

They won't move the Munster/Exeter or Ulster/Toulouse to the Aviva simply because the tournament rules state "The clubs ranked numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 from Pool A and Pool B will play the second leg of their Round of 16 matches at home".

And it was far from sold out, So why choose a bigger stadium in that instance? I'd imagine Bordeaux's ground would be a hell of a lot cheaper to hire the Stade De France too.

Munster vs Leinster in a Champions Cup game would be a guaranteed sell-out so EPCR are not going to piss away the potential of €1m plus on gate fees alone to have the game in Limerick.

I would gladly wager €100 that if Munster meet Leinster in a Champions Cup semi-final, the only venue it will be held in would be the Aviva.

I'm bowing out of this discussion now because it's been done to death at this stage.

Yes, have hotel bookings but want to sort flights asap

Nothing has been resolved for exact dates and kickoff times. But we know that the first leg will take place on the weekend of 8/9/10 April with the second leg to take place on 15/16/17 April.

I'm guessing and could be a 100% incorrect here, there are 5 French, two English and one Irish home game that weekend. I'm assuming BT Sports will want the two English matches on the Saturday. They'll probably stick the Irish one where ever they want in the schedule and split the French games over the 3 days.

French teams seem to get Sunday fixtures. Not sure would they go 1 game Friday, 4 Saturday and 3 Sunday. Booked flights for Exeter game out Friday night and back Sunday night so hoping game is on the Saturday.

I’d say BT will want Munster on Saturday evening, I’d guess the Leinster Connacht will be Friday.

Zebo is now third on the all-time Heineken Champions Cup try scoring charts - 34 tries for Racing & Munster.

One ahead of O'Driscoll, two shy of Vincent Clerc in second and needs just seven more to become #1

    Some going!

I'd be doing similar to Leinster and backing the two young lads at hooker. Both Barron and Buckley have shown to have a bit about them, they do things in open play Niall Scannell just can't. Buckley looks to be an ox of a young lad, very powerful with ball in hand.

I wonder how their scrummaging is, that would be one of Scannell's strengths.

Munster have Exeter and Sale have Bristol, my money is on us having Saturday night after the 5pm premier league game and Bristol/Sale getting Saturday at 3pm

The all French affair I think will be Sunday at 1pm and the rest of them will be drawn out of a hat

I thought he wanted to leave but that article says Munster didn't offer him a contract. Shame really but there's a lot of comfort in not having the choice and Wasps have made a great move on getting him. I wonder was Costello involved in getting Wasps to look at him?

Realistically they had to choose between Archer or Ryan.

With Knox, Salanoa, and French they don't need a fifth Tighthead Prop, especially when none of them are being called up to Ireland camps.

Update from URC re postponed games and rescheduling some of the fixtures

The United Rugby Championship have released the below statement regarding upcoming rescheduled fixtures.

The United Rugby Championship can confirm the rescheduling of five fixtures related to the Irish and Scottish derby matches postponed over the Christmas and New Year period.

The URC’s goal throughout the current rescheduling process is to fix games outside of the Six Nations window, where possible, and the current fixture list has provided a unique opportunity to move one Irish derby and one Scottish derby into the final round of the season (R18).

With Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh originally due to play Leinster and Munster in Round 18, those games will now be played on February 11 to allow the Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (R9) and Munster v Leinster (R8) games to take place on the final weekend of the regular season (May 20/21/22).

With regards to the Munster v Leinster fixture, the URC is working with Munster to confirm the venue and will publish the fixture details in due course.

Additionally, the Round 8 Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh fixture, which was also postponed, will take place on Friday, March 18. Due to the lack of available weekends beyond the Six Nations window it was not possible to schedule this game at another time with any certainty.

David Jordan, Tournament Director, United Rugby Championship, said: “This is an innovative solution to help keep two derby matches outside of the Six Nations window and it is a great credit to all of the teams and broadcasters involved for their willingness to work with us in this situation.

“In these circumstances we hope that the fans of these teams will look forward to the derby games in Round 18 where so much will be at stake ahead of URC Quarter-finals. Of course, given the number of URC teams involved in EPCR knock-out fixtures it has not been possible to keep all of our derby games out of the Six Nations window, but as we continue to reschedule matches we hope to have another positive update shortly.”

    Munster Rugby Statement

With regards the rescheduled Munster v Leinster game and the ongoing work with URC, Munster Rugby CEO Ian Flanagan said, “As Thomond Park is hosting Ed Sheeran concerts in early May we are currently reviewing the feasibility of playing a game on the pitch two weeks later.

“In meeting all requirements and prioritising our commercial partners, 10-Year Ticket Holders, and Season Ticket Holders we will do everything possible in exhausting all avenues to play the game at Thomond Park.”

    Rescheduled URC Fixtures

    Friday, February 11

Leinster v Edinburgh, RDS Arena, 6pm

Glasgow Warriors v Munster, Scotstoun, 8.15pm; Live on TG4, Premier Sports, SuperSport & URC.tv

Weekend of May 20/21/22 (details to be confirmed)

Munster v Leinster (live on RTÉ, Premier Sports, SuperSport & URC.tv)

Mrsc 6 Nations lottery results out too. Does anyone who was successful have an invoice in their account for the tickets?

So in theory could be playing Leinster in Champions Cup and then URC following weekend. Lot of rugby to be played between now and then of course.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,227 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

What kind of stage rig is Sheeran using that they may not be able to use the pitch two weeks later? Croke Park can host concerts and then have matches the next week .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,954 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

In fairness Croke park was developed with concerts in mind. They have relaid the pitch at times to be ready. They are also getting it ready for several matches in quick succession whereas Munster would just be for one.

The last couple of years have been strange for Ryan. He was getting the Ireland call up but not the start, so Archer was getting the start at Munster while he was away. When he came back Archer would usually get picked before him but Ryan would get the call up again, so never got a lot of game-time to get that jersey back from Archer or stake a claim internationally, stuck in a bit of limbo. He now isn't getting picked nationally, not starting provincially and now there's young lads overtaking him and it's two years on so he has to leave.

Shane Daly went through something similar last season I think whereby he was away with Ireland but not really getting his game on his return.

Best of luck to JR anyway, always liked him as a player.

24 caps for Ireland and 184 for Munster is a fine innings, fair play to him.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,227 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

But it may be just one match. There's possibility of home URC play off games too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,931 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Isnt the solution to the venue for the rearranged munster vs leinster game very simple?

swap the home game from the first weekend in april to TP and play the rescheduled game then in the RDS over the new weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,897 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Not a bad solution, it doesn't explain why Ed Sheeran playing 2 weeks earlier is a problem though... Only reason I can think of for that is everybody dancing on the pitch and the grass needing time to be restored

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,954 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

The pitch recovering would definitely be the reason. It will be covered for days with hard boards and depending on the setup a bit of stage along with a sound tower, after that’s all removed the grass will be brown and needs time to recover.

Would think it will be in Aviva but yeah seems like an obvious solution
