Help, my puppy was given an L2 booster on top of an L4 vaccine

I'm looking for advice on what to do now please:

Our puppy got vaccinated with L4 via the breeder

I just noticed that our vet gave her an L2 as a booster

I read in multiple sources that L2 and L4 aren't compatible and you can't mix and match

We've been walking our puppy unprotected for weeks now it appears

Can I start over with L4 vaccination - 1st dose at 14 weeks of age please?

Do I have to halt socialising my puppy now? She's been so happy since she can meet other dogs.

I would do your own research, there's a Facebook group on the dangers of L4, many dogs have died along with numerous side effects. I wouldn't trust most vets, a lot are still saying boosters need doing every year, despite the ruling by the WVSA & the leaflet in the Nobivac packet. Lepto is a real minefield.

She’ll be fine don’t worry. What does the vet think? I personally would not want to potentially over vaccinate as one of my dogs reacted badly to L4 and her other vaccinations so I’ve been very cautious since.

The vet was quick to respond and said they always use L2 and our puppy is fully vaccinated.

He didn't get into discussing the claims that you can't give an L2 booster on top of an L4 vaccine, which is my main concern. (not the fact that they used L2, but that they used L2 on top of L4, so now we might not have a valid course at all)

L4 contains 4 strains of lepto, 2 of which have never been documented in Ireland.

L2 contains the 2 common strains seen here.

If you boost an L4 vaccine with L2 then the 2 strains on Ireland will have been fully covered, the other 2 will not.

Many vets don't use L4 as when it was first launched there were several adverse reactions documented.

All leptospirosis vaccines have poor duration of immunity so annual boosters are required. However other vaccines ( distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus) can be done every 3 years of the initial course correctly and boosted at year 1.

Calling UCD is a bit OTT for a vaccine query and I’d assume they won’t talk to you anyways as you’re not a vet.. Everything will be fine. The vaccine only lasts something like 6 months anyways. Trust me your pup will give you plenty of other things to stress out about so don’t let this be one of them lol 🙃

That makes sense and it'd be wonderful news.

...I'm just worried as web sites say you can't mix and match L2 and L4 as they're not compatible.

Also, there is a 2 week gap between L2 doses and 4 weeks gap between L4 doses.

Our dog had a 4 week gap from L4 to L2.

It's hard to understand where this leaves us.

The gap for all lepto vaccines is between 2 and 4 weeks.

No data sheet or paper is going to tell you it's ok because no drug company is going to spend the money doing a trial on it as there is no incentive for them to do so.

However if you speak to any vet familiar with the vaccines they will explain to you how they can work together as outlined above.

Speak to the vet that gave the booster again if you are still concerned.

My dogs have been having the L4 jab for years because we go abroad and I wanted them covered. Never had any issues at all.
