The galling thing for me from the interviews from the Ulster game was JvG behaviour during the prematch interview drew the wrath of the panelists but DMcF behaviour during the post match interview was glossed over.

Neither of them covered themselves in glory and neither of them will be alone having a snarky interview once in a while.

Also heaslip calling him out for being "a barrel of laughs" is fairly hypocritical given his press conferences during his career. Much adorable about nothing imo

My problem with this Matfield thing is the only source is a Welsh crank on Twitter, who if you are unfortunate enough to be familiar with, is an anti-vaxxer level of objectivity while commenting on Irish rugby. The clip isn't anywhere. Normally a clip of a show is linked or posted on an article.

Matfields words are a bit muddled here.. hes doesnt say that JVG said "all the best players go to munster"... but its more that Matfield himself says "all the best players go to leinster... the local players, they all go to leinster"

its obviously Matfield talking about something he hasnt a clue about

Yep. He is basically just saying that Leinster have a better squad, JVG tried to address that in part by looking to improve the tight 5 through RGS and Jenkins. Neither have worked out due to injury so that’s been frustrating. Absolutely nothing at all to see here. Matfield is just used to the SA model and doesn’t appreciate the specifics of our one here.

    Matfield

He feels bad because he really enjoyed his time at Munster. He loves the people there but he said it's very difficult, he said with... all the great players go to Leinster so he has to compete and come second in every competition, but he doesn't win trophies, Leinster have got this amazing team, they've got 14 or 16.. and again financially he's trying to get the guys from outside to come make a difference. The local players, most of them go to Leinster so it's very hard.

I guess what we don't know is what JVG actually said vs how it's being paraphrased by Matfield but the original tweet is pretty accurate tbf.

TBH the main difference for me between the original tweets and what was actually said is that the comments about IRFU and Nucifora didn't come across as complaints or criticism, rather that it's been a help to JVG as an inexperienced coach?

Good find Syd, nice to actually see the clip. For me, I think it's pretty clear Matfield is inserting his own (not especially well informed) opinion rather than quoting JVG. Nothing in it really.

5 more contract extensions for Munster including a 2 year deal for RG Snyman.

Roman Salanoa (3 years), Scott Buckley (2 years), Liam O'Conner (1 year) and Stephen Archer (1 year) also sign new contacts.

    Snyman!!!!

let us all pray to the second row God (John Langford) that he gets a run next season onwards.

Surprised at the Snyman extension. He's essentially played no rugby in 18 months after two serious knee injuries. Must have a lot of faith that they can get him back to his best.

Hmm, not sure RG Snyman is a good investment at this stage after doing 2 knees. Hope to be proved wrong as he’s an exciting talent but didn’t he have issues with injury pre World Cup too with his ankle??

Zebo cleared to play at the weekend

" He's essentially played no rugby in 18 months " obviously not a player many clubs see as a worth while risk given his injury record in Japan aswel.

English clubs are offloading players to make the 5 million salary cap.

France? Bernard Lemaitre said Eben Etzebeth as a "handicap" to the Top 14 club due to the lock being expensive and often unavailable through injury and international commitments.

“There is a double problem in recruiting: the Salary Cap and the JIFFs (French-reared players),”

hopefully snyman gets to put a run of games together before POM drops him again ;)

This is a farce to be honest. Zebo shoulders him in the face,

But let's imagine that he didn't, which is even more hilarious, because now the disciplinary process has determined nobody gets a punished because they think they cited the wrong player. You couldn't make this nonsense up any more.

The URC / Pro14 / Pro12 citing process has long been lacking in credibility.

Jesus that snyman news is very unexpected I'd marked him gone already

That seems crazy to me. Statement mentioned it was Crowley who made the contact and should have been red carded (but now can't be suspended, as the citing windows has closed), and that Zebo made minimal contact. It didn't seem like that from the match angles, so can only assume they had some additional angles, but it still seems really poor from what we saw.

I was wondering how Farrell didn’t end up getting cited for his tackle against Connacht? Was it become the ref deemed it a yellow at the time that they couldn’t review it post game?

Who else is out of contract end of season? I know someone here keeps a very handy list...

Beirne, Ryan and Earls would be the biggest names left. There are rumours that Ryan is off so Saracens.

Funny how people think Zebo was a clear red but then say the Shields hit wasnt 😂. I guess if BT Sport say it’s not a red then it’s not a red!

Bierne, Ryan, Earls as mentioned by Cookiemunster

Gallagher, Flannery, SFrench, Goggin, DDA, Osborne, Colette, Jenkins, KOB, JFrench

It's good to see Snyman show some loyalty, after all he's earned a decent wedge the past 2 years and not been able to pay it back on the field. He is young enough that 2 more years at Munster isn't that hard a decision, there's plenty of time left on his career to earn megabucks elsewhere. Similar situation to Coetzee at Ulster.

    Big boost to Munster.

I think most of us would have bet that RGS was out of here after his two years, even with his injury woes I'm delighted he's staying. If we can get a run of games out of him he'll be a huge benefit to us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,523 ✭✭✭✭phog

Well other than not citing someone else they made their decision based on evidence presented at the hearing. It's most unusual for players to get off so Zebo/Munster must have presented some doubt about it and the hearing accepted their evidence.

These hearings are very much legal hearings so I doubt a nod and wink is enough to get a player cleared.

Good for Zebo but that's farcical.

No, all decisions can be cited and reviewed.

Zebo decision seems farcical on the face of it. There is a pretty good angle showing Zebo's shoulder ploughing straight into Lowry's face so I have no idea what they are on about.

Farrell and Zebo are two lucky bois

That is absolutely pathetic. The URC deserves every bit of bad publicity it gets because it's a joke of a competition.

If that was a Top14 or Premiership decision in the week of European games, we'd be spitting fire about corruption.

Slap in the face for the match officials too.
