Where are you buying your CO2 Carts from

Hi all,

Just looking for where people are buying their 16g CO2 carts from? I know obv online is the best bet but was hoping there's possibly an Irish cycling retailer that are quick enough to ship them out, preferably multi packs?

The likes of Decathlon & Cycle Tribe seem to be charging fairly steep prices for just single carts.

There was a group buy here a while ago that I think was from the UK (and pre-brexit) and worked out about a euro a cartridge.

Not an Irish retailer but I got the last batch from Alltricks. I got 6 packs of two (Zéfal) for €2.49 a pack around this time last year. I'm sure they can be had for less but it suited to bulk up an order to qualify for free shipping.

The home brewing companies usually have value and being on the island of Ireland have no issues with shipping,

I've bought from geterbrewed myself and I know someone who got them from the home brew company, stock seems to be an issue for threaded ones just at the minute though.

Alek was the one who organised the group buy, it was in 2017 believe it or not. Worked out €1 a cartridge, i took a box of 20 at the time.

Altitude in Waterford usually have a jar of them at the till if you're in the area. I normally buy one or two everytime I'm in to keep the collection ticking over.

I am sure I did one well after that. Still have a few here. Worked out at €1 a canister ex UK but as triggermortis pointed out it was pre brexit.

Is there any way of recycling these? Obviously they are very convenient, but I hate the idea of dumping metal into landfill.

They're steel aren't they, into the green bin with them?

EDIT: Just checked the last ones I got in Decathlon and they say they are fully recyclable on the packaging.

drinks cans, food tins and aluminium foil are all recyclable, I assume they'll go into the same waste stream - they have some method for separating out different metals. At the very least they won't contaminate anything else in the bin.

alternatively, recycling centres have a scrap-metal bin.

Yeah I would have though them the same as food tins in that they are no longer pressurised with used up unlike say aerosols which we keep separate in a box in the shed for a trip to the recycling place.

So no provision for metal recycling other than drink/food cans. Manufacturers can say what they like about something being theoretically recyclable, that doesn't mean that we can realistically recycle them.

😁 Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I would say 'it depends' (for me at least). I carry both a mini-pump and a couple of CO2 cartridges with me on a ride. If I'm not under time pressure, or the weather conditions aren't horrendous, then more often than not I use the mini-pump to do the job - but if its bucketing down or I'm holding up a group-ride then I'm more inclined to use the CO2. Doesn't hurt to have options.

I also have the Airwave mini floor pump. It was a decent pump for the price - I think it cost €15 when I bought it a good few years ago. Small enough to fit in a jersey pocket. I moved to CO2 a few years ago and don't bring the pump on spins anymore. The young lad uses it to inflate his footballs.
