Potentially yeah. It's been a fair few days since The Irish Sun broke the 'exclusive' story and the radio silence would make me think there is something in it. Irish Examiner did an article off the back of it too. In terms of JP, wouldn't say there is much of an issue given he works for Bauer atm anyway and producers are shuffled around quite a bit. Would say it could be the end of the week before there is news if there is anything to it.

Some interesting changes to the day time Schedule , Wonder where Fergal D'arcy will end up. Will miss him in the afternoon.

The bit about the retirement of the early show was spot on only. Foley's return must have changed plans and put Fergal Darcy put out of the picture?

    So has D'Arcy been cut?

Or heaven forbid, has Ed Smith been shafted once again to make room for D'Arcy?

Looks like D’arcy is gone from weekdays. He has a one hour show on Sundays though so I wonder if they’re letting him keep that.

The independent are saying he's left Today FM entirely / been axed.

It's a big change for Ian Dempsey having a 6AM start after 33 years of 7am starts

Ian's 6am to 7am Hour will defo be voicetracked...even when he was on 2FM (and he covered most slots) - he never did 6am !!

Seems to be amicable, from the Indo article. And going to be presenting his show until the end of the month (though not today, it appears).

Thoughts on the scrapping of the 5am-7am show ? It's been on the schedule since spring 98, Originally hosted by different rotating presenters, usually Noel Shannon or Tommy Greene until Paul Power took it over permanently the same day that Dempsey started on breakfast in September 98. It's longest and best known presenter was probably Ann Marie Kelly who hosed it all through the 00s and she frequently covered other shows during that time.

Can't say I ever heard it as I'm almost never up that early! But its clearly cost cutting, its either convince Iano to do another hour or extend robo-jock to 7am.

Ian actually used to do 7-10 am until they cut an hour off him to give to Ray D'Arcy, so he's back to doing a 3 hour shift for the first time in about 10-12 years.

Got my hopes up there that Ed would be back when I saw Pamela was in at 12

While it's not the lunchtime slot, it'll be good to have Foley back on TodayFM, the afternoon slot isn't a great slot though, hope it goes well for him.

This is the first time I can remember a radio station changing a few shows across the schedule after a very good JNLR book. I'm sure that Beaur hate the fact that the last word can't be scrapped

They didn't have a choice with changing Mairead's Lunchtime slot. The 5-7am Early Breakfast slot going was a no brainer and the others aren't too major changes really.

I guess 5AM Pre-Breakfast shows are from a bygone era when radio stations had lots of money that advertisers now spend on Facebook etc. I remember even ocean FM had a 4am to 6am show in the Celtic Tiger days.

jesus!! That was VERY and obviously Voice Tracked !!!

Most of us remember when RTE 2FM was live 24 / 7 in the late 1980s to the late 1990s

Overnight shifts shared between Gerry Wilson, Bob Conway and Gerry Gogan.

Ian Dempsey must be sickened to have an extra hour. Unless it's pre-recorded

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,031 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

...and many others. But in the early days of LIVE 6 hours shifts there was Philip Cawley, Mike Ryan, Paul Scanlon, John Clarke, John Kenny, Mike Moloney.

But that is another thread !!!

So there's lunchtime jocks on in the morning and afternoon but not at lunchtime? Surprised that D'Arcy got ousted with his numbers, but it's a silver lining

No issue with getting an extra hour of Iano in the morning, always easy to listen to.

that’s a solid schedule imo, lunchtime will suit Pam Joyce down to the ground and I’ll be keeping fingers and toes crossed that it goes well for foley. Interested to know if he’s solo or has a team on air which worked so well previously.

What makes me think it’ll be Ray and JP is the fact he said we twice in his quote.

Ian Dempsey has the current longest unbroken record with Today FM, having started presenting the breakfast show in late September 1998.

In fact, I would imagine he must have the current longest running breakfast show of any Irish station. Could someone confirm that?

Alison Curtis started as a researcher/producer on Today FM around the time of Ian's arrival, but left a short while later for the pirate Phantom FM. She returned to Today FM in 2003 after Phantom stopped its unlicensed broadcasts, this time with her own show The Last Splash. She left again for about a year-and-a-half in 2011 for the now licensed Phantom, before returning again to Today FM (by that stage, there were under common ownership), and has been doing her breakfast weekend shows ever since.

Matt Cooper has the honour of having the current second longest unbroken record with Today FM, when he became the official replacement for Eamon Dunphy as presenter of The Last Word in early 2003. He had been standing in frequently before that. I did not realize it was that recent until I did a Google check.

Numbers were up across loads of shows on lots of stations, presumably down to working from home. The drops from D&D to Mairead, and again to Fergal showed that people were switching off/over in big numbers.

Ed Smith has been with Today FM since as far back as 1998 but I only heard him on air first in around 2013

The breakfast presenter David Cawley, on Mid West Radio in Mayo, has been on that slot since October 1998, so very close enough to Ian's record.
