A week ago I said the best thing to do would be to nominate McGuinness and a male stooge to take one for the team. Andrew McDowell is that person. No eejit by any means, but he is not political and not well known, so there is no public ego to bruise.

Peter Casey's vote fell in every election attempt after the last Presidential. If he runs again he won't get close to his figures from last time - one time protest vote and his "of course I'm a racist" thing won't have helped.

He also got very few transfers (mainly off FH-E, the Greens and FF although by that stage both of those probably came from list-fillers) in the Euro race - a heavily fractured Presidential would be decided on transfers.
