Read up the thread and you'll find the news about Farrell.

Then have a look at Quin_Dubs post. As he says, and I've already said, they'll consult him, but the decision is the IRFUs.

The Irish system is run for the national team first and foremost. Internationals will be signed and renewed by the IRFU whether the provincial coach likes it or not.

I agree they should be doing it now with the backline they have. And a different coach would probably get more from them.

But De Allende would appear to be off at the end of the season, and the new coach won't be able to do anything about that. So there'll be a gap to fill at 12 for whoever comes in

I'd absolutely love to see this backline next season.

    9-Casey

    10-Healy

    11-Zebo/Daly

    12-Crowley

    13-Farrell

    14-Conway/Earls

    15-Carbery

Carbery is never going to be playing fifteen ever again, bar in injury enforced situations.

In other news, The42 are reporting Dom Morris to Munster

I wouldn't be so certain that he is "never going to be playing fifteen ever again" and foolish to think so.

    1. He was moved there by Ireland this November.

    2. I think when he originally decided to leave leinster and be munsters first choice 10 he had more bargaining power with the potential he had shown and Munster have managed without him over the past 2 years and now have alternative options.

    3. What's so bad with playing a few games at 15?, what's the negative? Barrett regularly does it, same with macannzie, farrell can play 10 and 12 and the same can be said about Natmack. Being a 10 and a 10 only is nearly more of a negative than a positive IMO.

Munster have quite a lot of 15s - Haley, Zebo, Daly, Gallagher, Campbell, Flannery.

I think it would be better to move Farrell to 12 and sign a 13. He doesn't really have the evasiveness you'd want from a 13 - if he's playing outside a bosh 12, that is.

I don't think Farrell at 13 is a problem. He's not evasive but not all 13s are and he makes up for it with his power and he has good hands. Jauzion, Bastareaud or Tuilagi weren't evasive but they were still very effective 13s.

Like in every centre pairing, he just needs someone inside him who'll compliment him. De Allende could be that guy but the problem is he's being used as a battering ram too, when he actually has a much more rounded game and can distribute really well.

I think Crowley and Farrell would compliment each other really well and be very effective. Or if not Crowley, Munster could look at bringing Frawley down...

    Yeah, you'd want a Giteau-style 12 to complement Farrell at 13.

Jauzion was more of a 12, surely? How much did he play at 13?

All of those pictures of Dom Morris look like he's being chased by something much bigger and scarier than him

What about getting Penney back as coach?

They'd have to give him three seasons this time - enough time to build something.

    Does he ever tire?

They need somone new to the set up I reckon, no looking back at previous coaches or chasing club legends for the job. Munster need someone with a totally fresh perspective, and some one willing to swing the axe. Plenty have mentioned Scott Robinson and I think he should be top of their list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

If you look at the coaches in the other provinces. Or Munsters most recent coaches. It would tell you the IRFU are not going to spring for Scott Robinson. Maybe top of a Christmas wish list. Not a list of realistic candidates.

Especially since he signed a new deal last July. So they’d have to buy him out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭PMC83

You could argue that Synman and DeAllende were Christmas wish list as well, but then there they were. Maybe Munster need to hold off on the NIQ's and put the money elsewhere. As for the contract? They don't seem to be worth much more then the paper they are printed on these days, thats something that the IRFU definitely know. It didnt bother them too much when picking up the phone to ROG in any case.

DeAlande and Snyman were paid for by sources outside the IRFU. Can’t really see anyone stumping up for a marquee manager.

The IRFU contracts have a get out clause built in. Not sure if that’s true for Crusaders but I doubt it. Who picked up the phone yo ROG? You’ve lost me there.

Ive kept my powder dry on JVG since his announced departure, plenty of people have a lot to say about him but for me the next three games will leave the lasting impression in my mind on his ability as a coach. (big losses before are being slightly ignored for this - edinburgh and connacht last season)

He has a full, or as good as full squad to choose from, a home game and more internationals in the side than Ulster, a game last week that has to have focused the minds this week so A home must win game that will be tough, but must be won for next years Euro qualification.

Castres away is a tough ask, we have been there and know them, we played badly against them last time but we are a better team, the french sides are not as interested in europe this year but none of them roll over at home, this game has to yield LBP as a minimum.

Then wasps at home. Our coachless third string side was good enough to hammer them in coventry. We need to go one better with a full side and full preparation for this one.

If jvg cant get those three things done then maybe for once keith wood is right.

I've no idea who picked up the phone to him but ROG has said he had contact and that he wasn't for moving as he'd just signed with LR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭PMC83

The use of outside funds for a marquee manager seems uncommon alright, but I'd be surprised if hasn't happened before. It would make more sense then bringing in another marquee player at this point anyway.

As mentioned above, someone from the IRFU / Munster was onto Rog, knowing full well he's contracted for the next few years. But hey, its a case of don't ask, don't get.

What about Graham Rowntree in the head coach role? With someone like Declan kidney in the DOR role.

I also wonder would the likes of Felix Jones be interested in coming back in a more senior role overseeing backs and attack or/defence coach??

Would be a great coup for ireland ahead of meeting south africa in the 23 WC to have him working in Ireland with his knowledge of all the South African players That could be tapped into.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Presumably Jean Kleyn will become eligible for South Africa again in 2022 if his last cap was in 2019.

I wouldn't imagine Kleyn would be anywhere near the South Africa squad and he should never have been anywhere near an Ireland squad.

My understanding is it’s not just 3 years and done, there has to be some sort of application and it sounds like tier one countries will almost never benefit from the rule.

TMK, Jackman now coaches Bective Rangers who have dropped down to "Junior Status" but is n/a on match day due to media commitments

He started coaching them when they were going into their second year of junior rugby.

Bang on, Wray has exploited the system, probably due to relative freedom in the top 14, has refused to open the Accounts, took the punishment and they are bouncing back now, in the knowledge other clubs like Leicester/Bath/Wasps were also inducing beyond salary cap, he just found a different way as an innovative businessman, big Sarries players have not moved away
