Regional Radio stations stuck in the 90s (Music wise)

Have you ever notice how many regional radio stations still play a lot of 90s music? Next time you're driving through the country, have a scan through the likes of KFM, Tipp FM, LMFM, Eastcoast FM, Clare FM. The tunes seem to range from the Lighthouse Family, M People, UB40, Dido and the likes. It's seriously like they their playlists consist of CDs that were giving away free with a weekend newspaper. So why this obsession with the 90s? It's really awful

Yep, Midwest radio recently replaced the Friday night top 40 show with a 90s/00s retro chart but it's because they are all targeting the 40 something housewife market who were teenagers in the 90s. The local stations see little point in playing new music when the regional youth stations Today FM and 2fm are all doing that

Oldies is the most popular format in the UK as well. BBC Radio 2 is the most listened to station, and a look at their Music Played lists will confirm that. It would need a list like that from those Irish stations to decide whether they have an obsession with the 90's.
