This weeks blurb features a slot of self love from the production team, channelling Hobbidy himself, who is seemingly as excited by self praise, as he is by illness and DEATH.

Revel in how great they are, these denizens of Montrosia! Not one word of mention for those who actually did the donating...

"This Friday night marks the final Late Late Show of 2021 at the end of an extraordinary year, which began in January with the live vaccinations of healthcare workers," says the Late Late.

"Throughout the year, the Late Late brought the Irish Diaspora together in a global session on St Patrick's night, gave a much-needed leg-up to Irish business on the Taking Care of Business special, put the children in charge for a record-breaking Toy Show and raised another €6.6 million for children's charities through the Toy Show Appeal - bringing the total of monies raised for Irish charities on the Late Late Show in 2020/2021 to an incredible €26 million!

In this weeks epic, we are asked to dig deep once again, this time for what is probably among the most abused charitable organisation on this island, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. Make your own choices on THAT one, in the knowledge that the biggest beneficiary may well be the ego of one R. Tubridy, Monkstown.

"The guests have been announced for the Late Late Show St Vincent de Paul Annual Appeal Special, with Colin Farrell, Andrea Corr, Brendan O'Carroll, Jenny Gibney, Ronnie Wood, Majella O'Donnell and more all set for Friday night."

(I'm a bit surprised to see Ronnie Wood in there, to be honest.)

    O'Caddle again...jaysus.

"Writer, producer, actor and comedian Brendan O'Carroll will be joined on the couch by his wife, business partner and co-star Jenny Gibney to talk about their special connection to the St Vincent de Paul charity and their plans for a proper family Christmas at home in Ireland."

    image.png

Majella again...jaysus. Again. The jockey was only on a fortnight ago.

"Hollywood actor and proud Dubliner Colin Farrell will be lending his support to the call for St Vincent de Paul as will the irrepressible Majella O'Donnell."

    image.png

Pat Shortt again...jaysus. Again, again. They'll have a job concealing that Bertie-esque nose. I have fallen out with Pat after he put a take-down request on a (tribute) Youtube video I had up, which had gotten more views than his own one...

"And it's a family affair as father Pat Shortt and daughter Faye will be on the show to talk about their plans for Christmas and an update on their comedy duo act."

    image.png

    Also, some TikTok fella.

Music by Andrea Corr and Ronnie Wood (ah, that explains THAT), as well as Susan O'Neill.

Postscript: Ronnie has/had cancer, but I bet it won't be mentioned...

I think he's like mammy o rourke on the radio. Basically always available and can put in a shift to fill a segment out.

To me it seems like the Late Late team start to fully focus on the Toy show around the beginning of November and then when it's over at the start of December basically phone it in until January. Start the Christmas holidays early like.

I think this is borne out in the little tracker thing I've been keeping. Up untill a few weeks before the Toy show the misery and freinds of rte segements were suprisingly low and the genuine segments were way ahead.

But then the freinds of rte segement especially started to pull ahead which I read as demonstrating that the production team stopped putting in as much effort with the guests.

We still have Dermot Bannon to go and there will be a few more Segements gotten out of dancing with the stars don't forget.

From the man who promised his radio listeners in late 2020 that we'd all be back to normal in early 2021.

Wonder if he will make any crazy promises for 2022.

I've had a super spicy indian dinner in the last hour or so, I might be mentally hallucinating a bit.

But I need to ask, am I correct in thinking there was some sort of Country (& Western) Christmas special last year when the various Mike Denvers of the circuit just popped in to sing non country versions of non country Christmas songs either side of a Dolly Parton Zoom call?

    Oh my Lord.

Man on Fire is on RTE 2 tonight.

It surely can't be that long since it was on after that particular Late Late which featured an interview with a woman who's husband died in a fire.

"Better days are ahead, mark my words".

Back with the promises unlikely to come true.

Come on Ryan you said 'Mark my words' I remember exactly, this time last year. You weasely charlatan.

I would trade every guest tonight for 5 minutes of Jim Corr's latest thoughts.

I'd say I've seen over 50 LLS interviews with tonight's guests over the years.

    Honestly.

PS: Is the thread a ghost town these days? I haven't been around for a while fir a variety of reasons. I see my posts are all one after another for a while still.

I take it Joe Duffeh's Grafton Street chucklefest is off this year?

Brendan usually contributes (I was going to say provide the comedy, but...y'know).
