Sky said Red Bull were called in first and Mercedes shortly after, BBC backed that up too.

Toto isn't going to the stewards, staying with Lewis apparently. We know what that means.

I'm pretty sure there won't be a real war over the F1 title

Did Hamilton have the better overall package today, yes probably but I think you’d be doing well to put together a current argument to say max was the better driver today. Hamilton had the car on rails and was managing the tyres like only he seems to be able to.

    He was incredible today.

Yeah it but maybe great craic for a brawl at the end of S4 for Drive to Survive?

Apparently the verdict being given to the teams will take a while, so not expect news to be public for 15 minutes or so - Sky.

He also said lapped cars wouldn't be allowed to overtake and it was him going back on that which caused this particular sh*tshow.

At least if he went back on the red flag then it would have led to a standing start where the two contenders are beside each other on the same tyres and nobody would be able to complain.

If you're working with Mercedes and you do everything right on race day to give your driver the win, only for it to be undone with confusion and indecisiveness from Race Control where there is a clear discrepancy in the rulebook, then you would be rightly pissed off here.

I think Lewis is probably still miffed at not being pitted more than anything. He has been extremely cordial today.

Don't believe anything until the decision is actually published as there's a gazillion different rumors flying around.

    I understand that.

I think what has happened here is He didn't want it to end under the safety car - and I suppose that is his decision to make?

I'm not going to pretend I know the rules and the application of them but Hill has said he can do what he wants with he safety car.

Ya he is brilliant at managing the tyres. Was mighty at the start alright. Thought Max did brilliantly to be as close to him as he was. Merc is so much quicker.

If is tanks I'd wanna be starting from the back of the grid, unless you can have your turret facing backwards from P1, also the pre-race flyovers would be fairly interesting.

Ye, I can imagine him being fuming because they probably could've avoided the situation.

Hamilton was very gracious and conceded defeat after the race.

    This is embarrassing from Mercedes.

Its like Don King complaining the Douglas went down for a ten count against Tyson.

    Switched on C4 for updates.

Heard the "he still has his tact, charisma, class...." and had to turn it off. It would make ye sick listening to that bull, four grown men swooning over Hamilton all wearing sorrowful frowns.

    Jesus wept.

He was good today. But that’s only half the game and his team were out strategised again. He had the fastest car on the circuit and could have gotten a lot done with fresh tyres but they left him out despite multiple opportunities to bring him in. An SC was inevitable at some point and Max did him easily on the last lap.

One thing this has demonstrated is UK broadcasters inability to cover sporting events involving UK sportspeople/teams in an independent way. I get they'll be pro Hamilton, but I thought Damon Hill in particular was overly Hamilton biased, and just watched a small piece on channel 4 now where they were falling over themselves talking about how classy Hamilton is.

Channel 4 is fine, they're just highlights and stuff, but if you watch Tommo on YouTube he's mentioned more than once that sky being used as the world feed is an issue and I'd agree.

Regardless of why they did that, keep the racing going etc. Even if completely unintended. The optics of make it look like they gave every advantage to red bull.

Realistically, what can the decisions be? Count back 1 lap, the lap before the SC, something else?

Could they include a 5 second penalty for Hamilton for failing to give back the position at turn 1 (overruling an earlier ruling, but keeping the same result, more-or-less)?

FIA have started deleting tweets with Verstappen as winner.

It's over folks, Hamilton has won in the stewards room.

To be fair, he was only close to Hamilton due to the VSC, his team mate and the Safety car.

I like max and it’s hard to argue that he doesn’t deserve it but he was extremely fortunate today.

Mercedes’ first out of stewards room - RB protesting what has been said?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,222 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    They can't overturn.

Masi fúcked up, but you can't have a scenario here where Lewis wins.

Mercedes have to be seen to appeal. Lewis will know this.

The worry over Max potentially having this taken away needs to stop. It's not happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,359 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I'd say there will be no penalties, the result will stand on the basis of what is best for the sport but with perhaps an acknowledgment of errors made.

Its not really anything to do with the drivers themselves so I don't see how penalties come into it.

Put them both in a Haas for a sprint and see who wins.
