Given the contingent that were away over the Autumn, you'd think we could be reliant on the backs (and the half backs in particular) to have a big day, as we'll have way more experience there.

I think we'll have Murray, Carbery, Conway, Earls and DDA and also Farrell back from injury in the backs along with just Killer, Beirne and POM from the forwards. Possibly forgetting some? Casey too, but you'd imagine Murray will start.

Time for the more expansive approach to shine!

Was casey not in South africa ? If not I'd love to see back line of:

    9 Casey

    10. Murray

    11. Earls

    12 DDA

    13. Farrell

    14. Conway

    15. Carberry.

He was on the bench for the Argentina game, so don't think he was in SA.

He did go to SA after the main tour, same as Zebo and Coombes I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭Must love hardship

Yeah I thought that. They might have only arrived into SA the Sunday morning that they decided they were leaving..

He definitely flew out to SA, I think he touched down just as the travel restrictions were being implemented but then he joined camp so was in the same boat as everyone else out there.

I think Casey posted something at the time like that Grandpa Simpson thing where he walked in and straight back out

Nope. Zebo et al flew out on the Saturday before the Argentina game. Casey flew solo on the Wednesday or Thursday

Edit: just checked and the final squad update included Zebo and Coombes.

Was Casey the only one that went later then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,272 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

You made it sound like they all travelled together. Zebo, Coombes, Jenkins and Hurley all went out on the Saturday so there were 5 additions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

You’re right, was Casey the only player that went out afterwards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,272 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Yes, the other internationals were due to join them, flying Friday or Saturday but obviously didn't. Thankfully.

Casey arrived on the Friday morning that the travel restrictions were announced. The rest of the internationals were due to fly on the Saturday morning, but that was cancelled.

Casey joined the squad bubble in SA, so he's either still there or he's in isolation with the main tour party here in Ireland. Either way he won't be starting on Sunday.

    The team is in.

Munster: Patrick Campbell; Andrew Conway, Chris Farrell, Damian de Allende, Keith Earls; Joey Carbery, Conor Murray; Dave Kilcoyne, Scott Buckley, James French; Eoin O’Connor, Tadhg Beirne; Peter O’Mahony (C), John Hodnett, Daniel Okeke.

Replacements: Declan Moore, Mark Donnelly, Roman Salanoa, John Forde, Conor Moloney, Ethan Coughlan, Tony Butler, Jonathan Wren.

Great to see Hodnett is fit. Huge day for all the young lads.

It's still a decent team. Big ask to go to Wasps and win but not out of the question.

Never heard of half that team, should be fun

I said the exact same thing to one of my mates. Really exciting to see how the young lads get on.

What a day for Ennis RFC as well with three lads on the bench.

I'm heading over to the match, I have a feeling I'll be checking the players numbers/names a few times to ensure I'm getting their names right especially if we start making substitutions.

Probably safer just safer to shout g'wan Munster

A game that will probably be decided by scrums and mauls.

this side might force us to play a lot more in the backs, not be hanging around in the scrums and our maul if it can establish it self some bit while being able to defend theirs could go some way to getting a result.

Wasps are a very resilient team though, if we get on top they have the ability to comeback and the weakened bench we have could be a big factor.

It could make for interesting viewing, and by sunday evening some players might have taken their chance and put their hands up high, while others could be in for some hard lessons at this level.

Harsh lessons might be a bit strong; you’d wish them nothing but the best and I don’t think anyone should be too harsh on them, given how they’re being thrown in at the deep end.

3 from Ennis is great to see. And they will certainly not be the last from the club to come through to this level. Hopefully the club can get their adult teams stronger again

Will be very tough but huge chance for so many players. nothing to lose

What a time to make your debut. Nearly ideal to be honest.

The odds are firmly against them and the expectations are low - go on out and give it a whirl.

    Hope they have a stormer

Very exciting teamsheet, and hopefully we'll be looking back in 10 years time to see the first caps of the next generation of Ireland internationals amongst these guys

Wasps won't know what hit them if we can start strong and make a few big hits and hopefully get the first points on the board

Our Centres of DDA and Farrell with experienced halfbacks should allow us control the middle of the park in open play, so if we can keep it simple at set piece, hold our own at scrum time, and keep our own lineout simple, we mightn't have a platform to attack, but we need to not be coughing up posession on our own set piece

Carberry's boot may be doing an awful lot of the heavy lifting on the scoreboard, and Murray's box kicking is going to be really useful to get us out of tight spots and to hopefully gain territory

The team that wasps have named is not exactly the stuff of nightmares. Obviously they've a lot more experience than our lads will have, but they're mostly experienced premiership level players rather than ERC and Internationals.

    8 Tom Willis (49)

I think the Quality we have from the Munster internationals along with the raw talent and motivation to play the game of their lives could make this a close game. I still think Munster will probably lose, but we have a chance, with nothing to lose, to pull something amazing off this weekend

Do we have any idea on what way it will work for players next week? In a sense you’d love to see these guys getting a chance in Thomond…
