85% Handicap Allowance for Fourballs

This is a yes/no answer really.

The 'recommended' handicap allowance for fourballs under whs is 85%.

This is a recommendation only.

Therefore, do club competitions committees have the discretion to apply an allowance of 75% in the terms of their club competition.

It may be something clubs might consider in a bid to bring fourball winning scores back below 50 points!

I suspect the discretion is not there and that the discretion is the governing body's rather than the clubs but worth asking the question

You could argue as there is one score coming from two attempts that 50% of handicap allowance should be allowed!

75% is a reasonable compromise, and clubs can run a competition in their own club anyway they want to.

Thats not how it works. Each player is allocated a course handicap as normal. So lets say A is 17, B is 15, C is 9 and D is 3. Then they get adjustment (recommended to be 85% but can be different. Just a recommendation. So OP it can be 75%)

So A is now 14, B is now 13, C is now 8 and D stay at 3

Now lowest player goes zero

So A is now 11, B is now 10, C is now 5 and D has no shots

All 4 play ball own balls but A has shots on index 1-11 etc etc

Interestingly indexes for courses are supposedly designed to be for matchplay not stableford

I never said that how it's works, just was making a suggestion that 50% could be sufficient allowance. The handicap system has a little bias towards excellence but it should be more to encourage golfers to shoot as low as possible and to get as low a handicap as possible. Smaller handicap allowances in fourball and team events is one way of doing that.
