Patching around fuse board

    Not the greatest at DIY so apologies for the dumb question.

    I wanted to patch up around the consumer unit (it's all plasterboard surrounding it). Can anyone tell me what I might need. I was thinking some sort of tape to seal around it and then some smooth filler. Am I thinking right or can anyone point me in the right direction?

    This is always an issue when plaster is applied after a fuseboard is installed. When the cover is removed then the plaster cracks away. Caulk applied with a mastic gun will do it but you’ll have the same issue if cover is ever removed.

    As per comment above, it will crack again, best suggestion I can think of, although not the prettiest would be to run a small timber slip around the box, something like 50x 19mm in section size, with a chamfered edge, leaving a mil gap between it and the box, mitred and pinned corners and painted. At least it allows removal of the cover without disturbing the board finish. Another idea might be a piece of vinyl strip, maybe 25mm wide, fitted like an architrave around the box instead of the timber option. Screwfix do 1m lengths of this, would look fine if you had a good mitre saw to cut the 45s.

    Can the cover not be removed and the wall patched/painted?

    The refit the cover.
