I don't know about settings issues, but I speak a couple of languages other than English and the subtitles do crack me up sometimes

I started watching Midnight Mass, not sure if it’s been mentioned. It didn’t sound like a horror movie so I gave it a shot. The characters are well-developed, the island has a Stephen-King-esque beauty. Great start.

Now it looks like it IS going to turn into some demon-related shíte now. Urgh. problem is I’m hooked now. We’ll see.

First episode of hellbound done. Not sure about it, dialog can be very childish and then there is the very distracting dubbing done. Same problem with squid game, dubbing is brutal.

Watch with subtitles, once you get used to them you’ll never go back to dubs

Generally speaking I'd agree but I read an interesting article during the week about translation for platforms like Netflix, for dubbing, subtitles, and closed captions, and apparently in a lot of cases none of them are great options. Obviously learning Korean fluently in a week isn't an option so I'd stick with subtitles, but it's interesting none the less.

I mentioned this when the trailer first appeared a few weeks ago but I thought this looked very like a Sally Wainwright series that aired on ITV maybe 10 years ago with Suranne Jones in it. I looked it up since then and it is actually based on that series. So if anyone remembers that then you'll already know how this ends.

This is a solid film, it has real 90s thriller vibes if you're looking for something old school and it's also only about 90 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,775 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

Or about 4.3 minutes per bridge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Yeah, it's not spectacular by any stretch but an almost brazenly old school urban thriller (oh god 90s is old school now). Without checking it probably bombed but it's proof Hollywood hasn't completely forgotten how to make once-off concept thrillers.

Less that a week ago I'd never even heard of League of Legends and now here I am delighted that there's a second season.

I still don't know anything about the source material but you clearly don't have to in order to enjoy this. It's got a really great central storyline with lots of interesting characters and side plots going on that came together really well by the last ep.

Fingers crossed they knew in advance they were getting a S2 and are already well into the animation process.

Never heard of it either. Saw it on its dedicated thread, and thought I'd give it a look, even though I don't like anime nor fantasy steam-punk. Watched the first three 45 min episodes. It really is very good. The animation for one thing is probably about the most realistic I've seen in terms of bodily movenents. But the story unfolds really nicely, and in unexpected ways. Well worth a look.

I was self-isolating there last week so I got through KIN, Tiger King 2, and Squid game.

I thought Squid game wasn't good as people claimed it to be.. But still enjoyable..

Kin was brilliant I thought. Better than love/hate was!

Tiger King 2 was great also I felt..

I have nearly finished season 3 of YOU. It was grand, season 1/2 was very good and I kinda had my expectations set quite high for this 3rd season.. Still have an episode or two left though..

This could be a big hit for Netflix and Spotify

Spotify Launches Hub For Netflix Soundtracks, Playlists And Podcasts

Spotify has launched a Netflix hub with soundtracks, playlists, podcasts and exclusive content related to programming on the streaming video service.

The hub is accessible to both free and premium Spotify subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and India.

Spotify has 381 million monthly active users and 172 million subscribers in 184 global markets. Netflix, the leader in streaming video, has about 214 million subscribers.

The hub is seen as a joint promotional initiative and did not involve any money changing hands between the companies, which have collaborated in the past.

“It’s clear that after the credits roll, viewers are left wanting even more—and they come to Spotify to hear it,” the audio streamer said in announcing the hub. Within two weeks of the premiere of Squid Game on Netflix earlier this fall, Spotify said, listeners to its service had made more than 22,500 unique, themed playlists dedicated to the show......

    A thousand times this!!

Been looking forward to it for a while. As a massive RENT fan (been to see it 19 times 😂) it really tells the man's story beautifully. It has loads of little nods and winks to musical theatre fans but also just a great story for anyone to enjoy.
