Robert Woods did his ACL on Friday. Makes the OBJ signing potentially huge.

Oh they should not settle. They should go all the way to a hearing and have him explain why someone who sends emails referring to "f****ts" and the lips of a black player should not be summarily dismissed.

Things end a lot worse for the NFL if it goes all the way to court. Gruden is already at rock bottom. Does he have anything else left to lose? His career is already finished and he almost certainly does not need money.

I'm not sure we've seen the last if him.

Kyle Larson used racist terms on a live cam in 2020 and got kicked to the curb by his NASCAR team but returned less than a year later to get a better car and win the Championship.

All Gruden has to do is take some classes on being a better person, then go talking to high school kids and the likes spreading the good word about being respectful and it's all forgiven and he can go back coaching.

As regards the case against the NFL, I'd be quite confident in my suspicion that Mark Davis wants this to happen. I don't believe Gruden decided to take this case by himself.

If you need to use Nascar to back up your point you are in trouble. Nascar has only ever had 1 black driver in it's entire history who was there purely on merit. The only other black driver raced because he funded his own team as nobody else would hire him. It's an inherently racist organisation followed mostly by confederate flag-loving conservatives. What they do and how they handle racism isn't relevant when it comes to any other sports organisation in the US because their target audience and sponsors tend to be far more lenient.

Gruden only came back to coaching because he was offered a silly 10 year/$100m deal and given absolute control. No other team is giving him a job based on his performance with the Raiders, and that's before the PR disaster it would be for the team that hires him after all the racism, sexism and homophobia we've learned about. I don't see a few years of self reflection helping him.

I can't see why anyone would want the circus around Gruden now. The fundamental point is that if he goes to the NFL again being fired for bigotry will be the first thing people bring up. Follow that with the fact that he isn't any good at the modern NFL and there is no reason to bring him in.

Your opinions on NASCAR are insane. I'm a NASCAR fan and I don't have a racist bone in my body. There are some idiots who follow it but accusing the majority of the millions of fans that follow the sport of being racist is just wrong.

Major sponsors include Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Xfinity, Advance auto parts, Digital Ally and Geico. They wouldn't accept anything like that.

In recent times a few black owners have come into the sport, Michael Jordan is a major shareholder in his own team now and Brad Daugherty has been a shareholder in a team for a couple of years. Bubba Wallace is in the cup series and Jess Iwuji is in the Xfinity series. Ask any of them why there's not more black drivers and they'll all tell you that the reasons are mainly financial. NASCAR banned the Confederate flag last year after some idiots hired a plane to fly over one of the events with that flag behind it.

And as for the next team hiring Gruden being a PR disaster, you simply don't understand how things work over there. You do the good stuff and then the media portrays you as a good guy and people believe it whether it's true or not. You need to do something bad or stupid a second time to end your career.

Look at Bountygate, Gregg Williams took the blame for that and spent a year out of the sport and he's worked pretty much full time for four different teams since as a DC, and interim head coach at one stage.

Look at players like Michael.Vick and recent ones like Kareem Hunt and Tyreek Hill.

Maybe Gruden won't want to come back to coaching but the path is there if he wants to take it.

"Your opinions on NASCAR are insane. I'm a NASCAR fan and I don't have a racist bone in my body. "

Your defense of Jon Gruden here a few weeks ago might suggest otherwise. Emails came out of him making vulgar comments about pretty much every minority in the country and you defended it like it was no big deal as it was said in private.

People who don't condem racism, or go as far as defending it in some cases, are as bad as those who spew it in my mind.

I won't be replying anymore as I know how this goes from being on here for a decade and seeing you get into weeks-long back & forths with people. I don't have the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,918 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Don't reply if that's the type you are. Leave your opinion like it's gospel and walk away.

You see I didn't condone anything he said. I just said that I don't think he is a racist person because people came out and backed him and he has worked with so many people as a coach and a color commentator that I doubt he would have gotten away with it all these years. So please don't accuse me of condoning something I didn't.

I would never condone racism. As a matter of fact some of my friends love the fact that I never even bring it up. Tbh I just forget about a person's skin colour or sexual preferences when I get to know them, for me they are just friends.

Anyways this is all far away from my point that there is a path back for Gruden if he wants it.

I presume you are of the opinion that Formula 1 is racist too?

"I would never condone racism. As a matter of fact some of my friends love the fact that I never even bring it up."

This is some Donald Trump level unselfaware, unintentional comedy.

No it's the truth and I've been told it on occasion by friends, that's friends who are gay and friends who are black.

Cop yourself on, comparing somebody you don't even know to a despicable man like that is highly insulting.

Donald if you're reading this, I apologise for any offense you may have taken from being compared to eagle eye. That was harsh of me.

Le'Veon Bell cut by the Ravens, never got going there at all. Sad how his career has went since sitting out that season at the Steelers. He's still only 29. I wonder would the Titans give him a go, seems like his sort of offense.

Washington placed Chase Young on IR. They've been giving up a lot if points this season and that certainly won't help things.

I seen Whitney Mercilus was placed on IR by the Packers. While he wasn't a starter for them he was often causing havoc in the pocket of the opposing team so it'll hurt the Packers a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭boccy23

Not sad at all IMO for Bell. He made some very bad business decisions and paid the price. All his own doing.

Chase Young was also having a mare of a sophomore season. It is sad for him as he was starting to show some form.

I was pleasantly surprised with how long Bell lasted, to be honest. Shame he couldn't reignite that fire for us but, as mentioned above, he has made some poor choices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,918 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I just think if Bell still has something that the Titans is where he'd show it.

Bell is a patient runner who waits to find the hole. In Baltimore it's instant impact to a predetermined spot. I always noticed how far back Derrick Henry lines up which is to give him time to build up his speed and to choose the gap he likes best. Bell would be able to wait and find the gap he wants with that OL.

It'd cost them nothing much to bring him in and with only McNichols, Foreman and Peterson it's worth a shot i think.

Zac Stacy is on the run now after being caught throwing his girlfriend around on home security camera.

The footage is very uncomfortable viewing.

I really dont think we can say he made 'bad business decisions', probably the opposite is true - he has $45m in career earnings. The guy should justifiably be delighted - that is generational wealth that was 'all of his own doing'.

I don't want to go through it all again but if he had signed with the Steelers and his performance had fallen off as much as it has since then the Steelers would have cut him, as they weren't willing to give him the non-injury guarantees he wanted and got elsewhere.

The guy got $28m for 17 games ~800 yards and 3 TDs with the Jets (having earned just $16m over 5 seasons with the Steelers). You might question how Bell's decisions impacted his legacy but in hindsight based on his fall off in performance his business decisions can't really be doubted.

    Just seen it. Vermin.

I do wonder does CTE be at play with some of these lads, even at a young age.

Sean Payton really, really loves Taysom Hill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,613 ✭✭✭Shedite27

What on earth does he see in him. Is there any other team in the NFL that would pay him half that? I know in the NFL their big thing with contracts is based around what's the cheaper option, and does the cheaper option get us less first downs, win less games etc. I can't believe they could have got something a lot cheaper that would have picked up those short runs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭Blut2

Hes a valuable trick play/gadget player for them, hes definitely worth a contract. But that contract has him the 14th highest paid QB in the league. Or would have him anywhere from #9 to #1 best paid RB in the league, #8 to #1 TE, #26 to #2 WR...

They could get a lot more value from the money. I would have thought they could have gotten him for half that easily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,246 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

The guaranteed money isn’t huge and he is unlikely to see anywhere near the top end as it seems to be heavily incentives based. Saints are a shrewd team and will have it set up in a way that doesn’t hurt them I have no doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,726 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Patch itself isn't really the type of place you'd go for NFL news but the journalist who wrote this has been covering Chicago news for years and has a good reputation apparently.

Bears have never fired a coach during a season before.

I thoguht it was also linked to what position he plays (don't ask how they work that out other than retrospectively)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,246 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

Yeah devil will be in the detail, I probably should have used the word conditions rather than incentives.

Either way the Saints are not a team that throws money around stupidly on bad contracts so I’d be surprised if they come out of this badly.

Near as I can tell the Saints find ways to pay every player 50 million a year and still end up below the cap.
