Converting old LV catenary cable lighting system to LED

Hi all, I have a client with a 20 year old LV double catenary wire halogen lighting system with a failed transformer and they'd like to keep it, and I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the old big transformer with an LED driver and lamps to match?

It's already ~12v AC, right, with just a blown TX? Are the bulbs MR12?

If so, yes, I have my shed lit using a DC battery supply into 4x MR12 LED bulbs. The input of the bulbs has a full-wave rectifier, so the polarity isn't critical. Just connect up a suitable 12V lighting DC TX and install the 12v LED bulbs and away you go.
