Pogba being linked with both Barca/Real today and the news of Lingard also wanting out. add that to VDB also rumored to want out that leaves Ole very short in Midfield again

How anyone could think anything other than having two workhorse type midfielders to try to cover for that front four is beyond me.

This is a straw man because nobody is advocating for us to not have workhorses in midfield.

McT and Fred might be workhorses but they're poor footballers at this level.

It's entirely possible to have good footballers who also work hard, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

But it's the important argument because that's what we all want. We have to play them because we're top heavy and we can't win the league while playing them. Bit of a catch 22.

I agree with trying to field a balanced team that doesn't have to cover for so many coasters. That balanced team would probably involve 3 of Ronaldo, Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Rashford on the bench every week and I can't see Ole doing that or probably any other manager.

The transfer window has left the playing squad unbalanced. I think most on here wanted a CM over a striker, but we jumped on Ronaldo and we are where we are. Regardless the team should be playing better than it is and that is on Ole and the coaches. Have to agree with those saying our coaches are incredibly inexperienced and rather dramatically not world class (which can also be aimed at Ole himself).

With Ole as manger it would be even more important to have truly elite coaches, but we are not a well run club, which is repeated ad nauseum, because well, it's undeniably true.

AWB European ban reduced to one game (which I think is already served).

Not a stat you want to see the night before a big game 😬

This is it. Henderson used to get dogs abuse playing the lone DM with Coutinho and whoever in front of him. As soon as they jettisoned Coutinho and got Wijnaldum and one of the other hard working mids involved they were a different team and Henderson suddenly looked world class.

The issue with United is that Bruno is too good up front to play deeper so gets stuck playing as a 2nd striker where I feel at City and Liverpool he'd be a false 9. These teams have a structure that allows them to play a high press. The United team doesn't know when to press and when to stop. Means teams play straight through them.

If your wondering if olé is up to the job or not. Imagine where Klopp would bring United to by the end of the season if he took over there tomorrow.

I think he could quite possibly win the league from a standing start with the squad at OT.

But, there is little point sacking ole without a successor ready to go.

not quite judgment day but a judgment run… of games…. Anything less then a win today and the the pressure will cranked up to max pressure…. And then a must win euro game on Wednesday….

I think we'll get a win today, Leicester haven't been great so far this season. Can see Ole picking up a few good results in this dodgy run, keeping him in the job for the season, once he keeps getting top 4 he ain't going nowhere.

    I agree

I fully expect Utd to go and get a few unlikely wins which will buck the perfromance and form trend of late.

Im going for a 1-3 win to Utd today.

He ain't going anywhere until the end of the season irrespective.

Liverpool consistently looking very very good. Next weekend is going to be our biggest test of the season so far.

A convincing performance & 3 points today will do the team a world of good going into this tough run of fixtures

    Maguire starts.

The non-functioning assembly of attacking talent may be connected to the pairing of McTominay and Fred. Despite being nominally midfielders, they are incapable of progressing the ball forward. They regularly gift possession to the opposing team and often hide so team mates cant pass to them. Regularly the team ends up passing around or over the midfield. And despite the running around, they don't offer defensive solidity. They're doing their best, but it's not "way overboard" to observe that Fred/McTominay are poor footballers by the standard of the Premier League.

#mufc: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Matic, Pogba, Greenwood, Fernandes, Sancho, Ronaldo

I'd take a Matic + Pogba midfield over any other non McFred midfield at this stage. I assume Fred wasn't available for selection.

    Rashford on bench too.

What was the point giving Baily a new contract

Did you watch the Liverpool game today? Do you think Henderson, Milner and Keita were playing like Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta?

No, there were 3 of them, playing as hard working midfielders and playing it simple when they got it. You want Fred and McT playing accurate 20 yard forward passes with their 2nd touch after trying to do the defensive work of 3+ players and it's not going to happen.

But sure Pogba and Matic are great on the ball so I'm sure the midfield battle will be won today...

Minute 2...Pogba loses out to Youri Tielemanns. Seems nonplussed...

Poor auld Matic will be gassed at the 30min mark, and Pogba will be as fresh as a daisy
