My Phonewatch system was installed about 5 years ago. It is stand-alone GSM and works fine. My neighbours newere Phonewatch system has a wired connection to his modem. Does this mean his uses wifi? What happens if his wifi goes down?? Just curious.

How would a wired connection mean it uses wifi?

It may use internet but that's not the same thing.

Furthermore that network connection may be used for 'smart stuff' e.g. set you alarm via an app if you forget as you leave the house rather than how it actually alerts the monitoring station. NB - i'm not familiar with the product so this is speculation, it is also entirely possible that alarms exist that rely on internet for monitoring
