Booking.com not honouring confirmed booking price

Hi all,

Booked a two night hotel stay on Booking.com for €282. I placed the booking over a week ago. Today, I received correspondence from Booking.com:

We've verified that the accommodation has made an obvious mistake when registering their rates online, impacting your booking .

They would like to offer you a new rate of 5, so you could keep your reservation. The total price of your booking would be: 1169 EUR (including city tax).

Please consider this offer and let us know if you'd like to keep your reservation. Alternatively, let us know if you'd rather cancel this booking for free.

Looking forward to hearing back from you within the next 24 hours.

If you have any other questions, we are here for you.

Do I have a leg to stand on here? I had paid for the booking in full. I tried to contact CCPC but they advised that they could not assist, as Booking.com are a Dutch company. Would appreciate any insights.

Nope, they will state that they can cancel.

Also booking .com is simply an advertising/ booking management site, your booking is actually with the provider of the accommodation.

Can I ask:

Genuinely, when booking the thing did you not think to yourself that it seemed abnormally low. Not a nice offer of discount, I mean extremely low.

The disparity there is hilarious and that you’re getting upset over it now bugs me. Misprices happen everywhere.

282 for 2 nights isn't abnormal if you aren't aware that its a premium priced hotel, really.

Zero chance of getting it honoured, regardless.

I’ve stayed in off peak hotels at a fraction of the cost of on peak. Some places are more affected by covid than others and May have reduced prices.

As have I, but the price discrep here is beyond unbelievable- surely the OP saw it and jumped at it thinking it was a miracle glitch and hoped for the best.

That's absolute speculative nonsense, from you.

I've gotten massively discounted rooms, in my time, based on several factors. Also when booking a hotel on Booking I would not have a notion of most hotels standard rates or available deals and would assume that it's a correct price and would not consider that an "Obvious" error to be honest

Almost of 5th of what looks to be their standard price.

Its a forum, that’s the point of the place - to speculate and chat etc.

You still see the hotel it’s for so you’d know quickly whether it’s too low altogether or not (or else ‘decent’ value)

but we’ve established that you have gotten massively discounted hotel rooms, so even if the op did in fact think he got a massive discount what of it? Why did it bug you?

also 500 a night is a weird price. By and large very few standard rooms would be that price, or more, even in the most expensive cities. I did a search on booking.com for 5 star hotels within 1km of Paris in Oct and got 7, of which only 3 were 500 or more.

nothing stood out about these hotels really, they definitely had nice bedrooms but if I saw them at 200 or so I’d think it normal.

the real expensive hotels - the ritz etc - don’t seem to be on booking.com

Great that you know standard costs for every hotel. I stay in hotels of all grades regularly enough and wouldn't have been overly surprised by the price in the OP as a promotion. How you expect the OP to have known is just beyond me.

Each to their own so. I think it’s a fairly easy grasp when on a site like Booking.com to know if something is a good offer/price in comparison to something being beyond reason.

Again, we don’t know the hotel but it could’ve easily been a ‘Jesus I’ll have to snap this up’ type thing which often happens with other things online like electrical items that ended up being mispriced.

Look, I’m just having a discussion on the thing - people don’t need to be getting upset about it for no reason.
