UK Parcel with An Post . No delivery . No Contact

You get on to their chat function and be prepared to wait quite a while.

Customs are going through EVERYTHING. And that's causing massive delay.

I had a package that was just over €153 including delivery and it required taric codes and declaration from sender as it was just over the duty limits.

He gave a £5 credit to bring it to €148 and resent it.

Some are, many aren't. I've had to drop a few suppliers because they won't handle the Irish/EU VAT. They don't see the benefit for the small portion of their turnover that's involved and they may be right.

I ordered something on Amazon the other day.

Got a text from an post today saying to contact them to pay customs charge.

Are sellers on Amazon not paying Irish vat?

I thought Amazon was all sorted before arriving in Ireland.

First time I've had this happen and I'd have stuff coming a lot.

Either a scam text that just coincided with your delivery or if its a marketplace seller that did not have "fulfilment by amazon" and sent it themselves, they may not have put correct information on the label.

Also see if the tracking number on the text matches the tracking number on your amazon account

I had similar issue with e-spares, was told the label was a Royal mail label and the An Post office couldn't accept it.. Got onto e-spares for a replacement An Post label, but they didn't seem to be able to provide one(they asked why I couldn't drop it off to RM!)..

Plenty of UK suppliers are set up for Irish/EU vat and treat it the same way as Amazon. Check at checkout as to what VAT rate is being applied and remember the postage counts for VAT too.

If they don't then either they sell it excl vat or you will pay both vat charges. Good luck looking for a refund as it should have no even sorted at point of sale.

or is it some sort of brexit bypass?
