2016 Mazda 6- what to look out for & exact difference between models?

Hi,

After a lot of toing and froing I'm currently thinking of getting a 2015/6 Mazda 6- extremely comfortable interior, nice trim, lovely body shape. More exciting looking & I prefer the interior to the Skoda Octiva Style. (I test drove a Platinum DSL model). Other runners were BMW 3 or 5 series- more expensive than the Mazda- which seems to be priced very well- any particular reason why?

I've read a few things about them being extremely unreliable but think that's been resolved in the 2015 & 2016 models- correct? When should the timing chain be replaced & how much does it cost? What are the things to watch out for & check when considering buying please?

Lastly, what exactly are the differences between the models; I did a quick google search but couldn't find a comprehensive result.

steer clear - the engine issues are not fixed in 2015/6 models.

Does the issue(s) exist in the 2017 model or in the Mazda 3 diesels?

I could go for a 2017 Mazda 6, however it has 147k km on the clock & is SE model.

What year & price please ? I can't find any 2015-2017 petrol besides in NI that'd be expensive once VAT is applied

I'm reading about the 2015/2016 Mazda 6's recently as well because I was also interested. Emphasis on was.

I had even test driven two of them but after reading more online it seems the Mazda 2.2 diesels should be avoided.

Timing chain, oil dilution issues, DPF issues(I know this can be blamed on the driver and distances but I think your mileage is lower than mine so relevant).

I also saw mention of rust issues but haven't read much about that so far. The Atlantic gives us lots of salt so definitely not something to ignore in Ireland. (Lookup older threads on boards for more detailed info.)

It's a pity because they're a great looking car and I enjoyed the test drives I did in them, lots of torque and comfortable on the road.

I'd avoid the D2 model if possible. The one linked above is the newer 2 Litre which is better than the 1.6 it replaced, but it's still a bit under powered. The D3 is a 150hp and pretty decent - not quite as nice as the older 5 cylinder, but more efficient and wouldn't be far off the performance you get from the Diesel Mazda6.

Tiny, tiny little boot in the S60 is the main issue with that model.

If not this I'd either go for a 2017 Skoda Octavia petrol automatic, 110km (€14k) or a Skoda Octavia 2015 diesel automatic, 150km(€10k)
