Whats your military experience Timberrrr ? Have you ever worked on a helicopter ? How many military helicopters have you flown in? Call me sceptical if you like, but the only damage I see on the chopper is like some one with a sledge hammer attacked it, broke a few windows and thats it, Maybe theres also damage internally but theres no proof of that from the pic. As said, I'd be happier if it was a burned out wreck, sitting / lying lobsided on the floor. Now enough of your tactic of throwing the onus of proof back on a poster. Do me a favour, look it up on Google " What American military equipment left behind"

And Biden considering this a success, now that's mindboggling.

Five years in the British army, served in the 1st Iraq War, and roughly thirty flights in military helicopters so yes plenty of experience.

There is no way that helicopter will ever fly again. But hey, what do I know? I mean...you've been on the Google and that's enough for you right? 🙄

You can blame Trump or Biden or King Tut, but the fact remains, even if the ANA had managed to hold the line, and there was an orderly planned withdrawal, there was always going to be a last day of evacuation. And utter chaos as thousands of afghans tried to escape the Taliban.

The google comment was to give you the nrs of and types of military hardware that the taliban now has at its disposal. Did you check it out? So with your experience, the helicopter in the pic is completely beyond repair? Now, as I have not inspected it inside or out side, I cant really tell, but it looks like some one with a sledge hammer gave it a bit of a going over. Now you having military experience, if you were ordered to destroy as many helicopters, Bradleys, Humvees, how would you go about it???

Oh, and yes, I've flown in military helicopters too. And had the Blackhawk/ Warthog in action experience as well.

Same advice I gave Timberrr, I'll give to you, and see for your self, google how much American military hardware has fallen into the hands of the Taliban, There's plenty of article's to see. For sure, if they can manage what they have got, they will be very dangerous.

Flying helicopters is what the Tally men would like to do; keeping the lights on and food on the table is what they will be judged on now. The lads looked a bit stunned in the palace in Kabul and their pleas to the educated to stay already sound desperate. The country is entering a maelstrom of acute financial distress that will require foreign support.

    Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,

Europe would want to start look towards its own security. It’s the only region in the world where a sob story, tales of woe and hardship will gain you entry without let’s face it any semblance or ability to mount an accurate or credible background check to see who you are, who you are linked to, what your beliefs are etc...and what threat you might pose...

i think or I can’t find anything about Afghan civilians being allowed to go to the US to live..

Why were you post fake news about the Taliban hanging people from helicopters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,017 ✭✭✭✭josip

Given their history I think it was a reasonable assumption that someone swinging from underneath their helicopter was no longer alive.

Sorry, I'm not buying into the "poor misunderstood Taliban, this time they're different" story that's being put out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,208 ✭✭✭jmreire

The original dead man hanging from a Blackhawk quote came from Loafing oaf, not me, yet you did not challenge him about fake news. Why?

And have you googled about the American weapons now in the hands of the Taliban?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

And I posted about first say a man was dangling from underneath ,

Never said he was dead or hung ...

    Who made that conclusion ?🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,642 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Apologies that was me, first few articles I Googled about the story seemed to suggest it was a dead body. Looks like my joke about the guy 'showboating' was nearer the mark...

Some people see a helicopter that can be repaired. Some people see a donor helicopter that can be stripped of parts to fix other helicopters. And some people see a pile of metal that can only be recycled.

Will that helicopter fly again? Maybe, maybe not. Will parts of it fly again? Definitely.

The point is, going by outward appearance, it does not look to be badly damaged, and for sure, there are salvagable parts on it. But later on, they showed another hanger, and what was stored there, was damaged, badly damaged. Even the Herc 130 on the tarmac, is listing down on one side, so it has "suspension problems at the very least,

In the context of helicopters and light aircraft, cannibalization from other models will work for a year or two.

Always, they were dangerous. Driving around the towns and cities in their toyota pick-ups with machine gun's mounted on them...and in some cases, some very unsavoury gardening tools as well, but now they are even more dangerous. Given their so called victory over the Great Satan, and the avalanche of weapons they now possess, they will know no bounds. Its quite obvious that its the will of Allah, and that will embolden them.

The U.S. destroyed or 'demilitarized' all equipment left at Kabul airport, depriving the Taliban of more trophies

    PETER WEBER

    AUGUST 31, 2021

When the last U.S. military aircraft flew out of Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport on Monday, the only usable equipment left behind was machinery to help the airport return to civilian operation as soon as possible, U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Frank McKenzie said at a press conference. The rest of the equipment — 70 mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, 27 Humvees, 73 aircraft, an unspecified number of counter-rocket, artillery, and mortar (C-RAM) systems — was destroyed or "demilitarized." These vehicles and weapons will "never be able to be operated by anyone again," McKenzie said."

Afghanistan is a hard and unforgiving country travel-wise. The US made major improvements in the roads etc, but when you leave the roads and travel in the rural countryside, you better be well prepared,I know of 9 mth old Toyota Landcruiser's showing metal fatigue, bad cracking on the frame, and these vehicles can take some punishment. So cannibalising vehicles would be nirmalm practice, especially road vehicles. But as part supply diminishes, they will need to strip parts from everything inc. helicopter's to keep them flying. They are in for a sharp maintenance learning curve,

Yes Timberrrr, I read the same article, and it mentions specificially Kabul. But what about the rest of Afghanistan? And I'll ask you again, if you were tasked with destruction of the helicopters, Humvees etc, how would you go about it? There are more pics in a different hanger, showing really badly damaged Vehs/ Helicopters etc. The one in the pic with the dog crates looks like some one attacked it with a sledge hammer.

Wonder if the Taliban has the capacity to keep thousands of armoured Humvees not only running but fuelled too ,

Without proper maintenance they become paper weights and you get something like 6 miles to the gallon if your lucky driving them especially anything that's being uparmoured ,

Great for posesing beside for photos but don't expect to drive any great distances in them ,

I remember seeing mraps vehicles being cut up to be given to locals to sell for scarp because it cheaper than flying them back to America ,

"The one in the pic with the dog crates looks like some one attacked it with a sledge hammer."

And that's all you see, but going by the comments in that article it's pretty safe to assume that they destroyed the insides too. A few key component smashed/removed and that's going nowhere.

    It is not that easy.

If the yanks find that their MD530s and C208 are being fixed they start questioning where the parts are coming from and if there is embargo in place they can go after MD or Cessna.

Neither of those companies would dare sell direct without state department approval so it would be someone they had supplied to.

Parts can be tracked and they would be soon frozen out.

Anyone remember how Aer Lingus got in trouble for supplying some service to Iran back in the 80s when US had embargo in place?

Funnily enough it was at same time Ollie North was dealing with them and flying on Irish passport.

50 cals on door mounts??? That is very Hollywood.

Most times I would have thought only a 7.62 on door guns.

Every aircraft can be used as an attack aircraft once in it's life.

Soon you run out of aircraft and pilots as the Japanese found out.

Emaon Ryan will be proud of them.

Next thing you know they will be banning one off houses, having a levy on plastic bags, culling the national herd.

I guess they already have the one hilux per village and have limited the number of flights around the country.

Didn't know the quran had a punishment that involved dangling people from a helicopter.

Maybe he was trans and this is the new punishment.

Great title for a movie I reckon.
