Sad to hear that didn't work for you either but not surprised tbf. Even amazon has been a bit dodgy with stock throughout this 30x0 saga.

Never thought I'd say this but the place I'd recommend at the moment is overclockers. While they are a bit on the pricey side, it's worth it to keep an eye on the item(s) you want as they seem to lower prices when their stock isn't selling. And if they say they have stock, that means they do have stock (I suspect at times they have more than what they say they have...). Last but not least, they sell to Ireland with no VAT, so you don't get double charged, you just pay VAT in Ireland to DHL before delivery

I got my KFA2 3080TI Hall of Fame from them for GBP 1099 (+ Irish VAT), after they listed it a few weeks before for a ludicrous GBP 2099 ... ;) My patience won in the end.

Rover, that's exactly what I've just done now. Do DHL ring you to organise payment of the VAT or how does it work? What's the KFA2 card like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭TheRover

From the reviews KFA2 HoF has the best PCB around, but I'm unsure on the warranty as they don't take registration, they just "handle it via the retailer" which is OK I guess. There's a turbo button on the back that makes fans work at full speed that baffled me for a bit as I pressed it inadvertently and I couldn't figure out why it was making such a ruckus :D Best of all, it looks great on my white build - considering getting PSU white cables now to match. Performance wise I haven't stressed it yet but it seems to work 60% faster than my 3070 which is was what I was looking for.

Did you go for the KFA2 as well?

I believe DHL are supposed to ring you but strangely both my phone and my postcode were lost on the package label. So I rang them to see what was going on and they let me pay via the phone (automated system - you don't give the number to a human), took note of my eircode and delivered it the following day. So just in case you want to avoid delays, as soon as your tracking says it's in DHL Ireland's hands, give them a ring and ask.

Yea, I went for the KFA2 HoF. I saw the switch for Silent vs Performance mode alright. I've an all black case with no glass so I don't give two fiddlers what colour it is or whether it supports RGB or not. The card hasn't shipped yet so that'll be this week I hope. I'm coming from a GTX1080 drive a 1440p GSYNC monitor so I'm guessing that the upgrade is going to be considerable performance wise 😈

That’s a good price for a HOF card, pity you now have to get some LN2 or it’s basically not being used properly.

    As for performance, it’s ONLY a 254% improvement…

It's actually a 3080 Super Hyper Turbo Mega Extra TI in disguise! ;)

It's a blatantly obvious scam. I don't know how people even fall for them at this stage. It's the Amazon equivalent of a Nigerian prince wanting to make a deposit into your account.

Yes but what do you think would happen? would you receive anything? would you get a refund?

Happened to someone here before and Amazon refunded them. I think the idea of the scam is to get the person to send money by bank transfer or something but not 100% sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,969 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

You wouldn't receive anything, and if you're stupid enough to send money by Escrow you won't get a refund either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,028 ✭✭✭H3llR4iser

My guess is that you'd be kept waiting 'cause of "restocking issues" until you file a complaint, and then get a refund.

In truth, this is more of a scam towards Amazon than the final customer as they would usually refund the user and then try to take it with the seller (who, by the time the complaint/refund will be addresses, will be long gone). It's one of the fallacies of Amazon's business model, it kinda relies on the fact the vast majority of sellers and buyers are honest so that the occasional scam has zero impact on them (1300 Euro, for Amazon, are less than pocket change...).

Long story short, if a deal looks too good to be true, it's because it is not true indeed...

ended up picking up a GTC3080 for e950 off PC Specialist. Not sure if that price was due to me ordering my PC previously from them and selecting the upgrade option but it was a good price considering the 3070ti was 750 or so so I reckon the extra performance in BF2042 etc will be worth it.

    Now to flog my RX580..

Nvidia are now shipping to Italy directly through LDLC. The first drop was today, I suppose we're too small a market to hope for something similar but here's hoping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Kurooi

    PCspecialist.ie?

Do they sell parts? I can't see it at all on their website. How did you find it? I'm ovedue an upgrade but looking at the likes of overclockers where a 3070ti or the like are over £1k : (

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,475 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

No they only sell complete pcs

and they provide an upgrade path later

    on.

Thought I'd missed the boat on the price craziness because I still haven't gotten around to selling my spare GTX1080 and RTX2060 but checked adverts.ie for the first time in a couple of months and the feckin things are still selling for €400-€500 !! Not only that but it seems Overclockers now have a decent amount of RTX3060's, 3060TI's, 3070's and 3070TI's in stock!!

My own new rig is sorted. I already have an Asus Strix RTX3090. However I am building my brother a VR gaming rig out of my old PC. What I can recoup on the 1080 & 2060 is probably €800-€850 realistically. So which of the above mentioned 4 RTX 3000 series cards would you guys recommend I pair with an i7 6700K OC'd to 4.6ghz on a 280mm AIO Rad with 16GB of 3000mhz DDR4 on an Asus Z170-A Mobo. Assume I am happy to blow the whole €800-€850 or even add another €50-€100 to it. Is it worth buying a 3070TI to pair with a 4 Core 6700K @ 4.6ghz. Mostly VR (High res) or Flat gaming on a 4K TV?? Doesn't those use-cases at high res and refresh mean I'd always be GPU limited anyway so the rationale would still be to buy the most powerful GPU I could afford in this scenario?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,969 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Yes, you'd be GPU limited so go with 3070 (or 3070 Ti if in budget).

Avoid the 3060 (non-Ti), its core performance doesn't outshine the VRAM (for reference, it's slower than RX 5700 XT / 2070 Super in many titles!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,768 ✭✭✭Homelander

If you're just playing at 60hz then the 6700K would mostly be OK for another while but realistically pairing it with a 1K GPU would be less than ideal in the overall scheme of things.

If you're playing at high refresh it's a particularly poor pairing, a 6700K just doesn't have the cores/threads to feed a high-end GPU at high refresh in the bigger new AAA games which are scaling very well across both

Has anyone here ever gotten or know someone who got a purchase notification from the EU EVGA queue ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,969 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

    None here.

All I've gotten are messages to say they're switching to LHR, and another to say I requested stock on too many SKUs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 707 ✭✭✭Confused11811

Yeah got those too, the last one on Friday. I don't think I've heard of anyone in Europe who's gotten one from them. I joined Thier queue in February, I wonder in the recent update to only allowing 2 items in your queue and 2 gpu sales overall will help.

I'm sorted myself for GPU's but wouldn't mind trying an RTX3080 for near msrp.

    I'm new here... hi!

How do you go about even attempting to get a Founder's Edition card? I read somewhere that Nvidia don't ship to Ireland. So I guess you'd have to use a forwarding service from the US or UK?

How often do they do restocks? I know AMD do restocks on Thursdays. Is there a reliable schedule for Nvidia Cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Calibos

While any flat gaming the brother does will be 4K @ 60hz on his LG TV he will be doing a lot of PCVR as well so 72, 80, 90 even 120HZ on his Quest 2 is also on the table.

If I were to decide to 'enhance' the gift instead of just a new GPU but hand-me-down 6700K, but instead bought him a new mobo and CPU, what should I be thinking about from a price/performance perspective? 6 Core Intel 10600KF or 11600KF on a B560 motherboard (You can overclock on those boards can't you?)

If I go this route there still won't be any wastage because the parts will just cascade one further level down. ie. 6700K will go into my Media Server, Haswell 4570K planned for Media server will go to my Bedside PC and my current uSFF Haswell 4560S based bedside PC will go to my father to replace his Celeron based MicroPC that is basically his Facebook and Youtube machine.

[EDIT] Just doing some further thinking especially after watching some more Alderlake content while researching the 10600KF/11600KF's.

Can me Mad, but my brother is also getting seriously into Photography and bought a fancy Canon SLR and tripods and gimbles etc and the thought occured to me. He probably even more than me could make use of lots of Cores. What if I actually gave him my x570 and 5900x 12 core and the 16gb of 3000mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 from my old 6700K build. I instead of buying him a 10600KF/11600KF and mobo, I buy myself an Alderlake i9 12900K (Assuming rumours are true that single Core blows Zen 3 away) as Single COre gaming performance will be more important to me than him when I play MSFS2020 Ultra Settings in VR. I use the 32GB of Corsair 'Ryzen Optimised' Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO, I bought for the 5900X build with the Alderlake i9 12900K. Its my understanding the 'Optimised for Ryzen' tagline is mostly BS and DDR4 is DDR4.

So ultimately my brothers PC would be a 5900X on an X570 Modo with 16GB of 3000mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 and an RTX 3070TI and my PC would become an i9 12900K on a Z690 motherboard with 32gb of 3600mhz CL18 Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 with an RTX3090.

Yeah I got an notifation for purchase of a 3070ti on the 6th of October, wasn't in a position to purchase it, was coming out to be about €950, so kinda also not worth it just yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 707 ✭✭✭Confused11811

Nice to hear someone here was at least offered a purchase. How long where you in the queue by that stage ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭allen175

4 Months, joined the queue when EVGA went live with the Ti's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭deceit

I signed up to this for a 3080/3090 about 6 months ago. Its good to hear as may actually get a chance eventually to buy one in the future.

So it's been a year since I was here. Are cards still incredibly hard to get then?
