I'm starting to get notifications from threads I've never posted in and I'm not subscribed to.

Just started for me too, an update seems to have changed notifications preferences. I've just reset mine again.

thanks - but regards the search - it does not seem to be searching everything? As an example - searching for the title...

    PS5 stock updates *NO CHAT*

I've tried - "PS5 stock" and "PS5 stock updates" and "PS5 stock updates *no chat*" (all without quotes) and none show the thread...

I even tried the first line of the first post on the thread "Please post any PS5 stock updates here" - still no results in search.

from my old emails... the thread does exist - (its here-> https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058138355/ps5-stock-updates-no-chat)

    “Roll it back”

Also got a random notification; "DPC - I wonder where it is?" in the DIY forum.

And yeah, search is no better for me either.

It seems to be notifications to threads that were in the old 'My Forums' in the old Boards, but not actually threads I followed/subscribed to

Image attachment quality is awful. Barely legible. Imgur vs boards.

    ss.PNG

And no way to remove an image after posting as far as I can see.

Not sure if it should be in this or the bugs thread but getting notifications of of posts in threads I don't recall ever posting in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,683 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Same. Then a pop up notification brought me here rather conveniently. Maybe the new slight is good after all because it predicted where I wanted to go next lol

Anyway I though I turned off all notifications except those that mentioned or replied to me. Guess I'll have to do that again.

I'm getting a tonne of notifications. Some for threads I am subscribed to, most I amn't subscribed to. It's a pain in the hole.

Problem with notifications here as well.

Search function isn't working. So much for indexing

Post numbers massively out of whack on mobile site (maybe always have been since change and I never noticed).

Psychonauts 2 thread has seven post but reads in the forum as having 124k replies.

PM notifications arent coming thru, replies are not even showing up on the dropdown list, where you scroll thru pms.

I have it so I only get notifications if people mention me. Not sure what the benefit of anything more than that would be.

I have a load of notifications for a "notification" thread I didn't know existed plus lots of other stuff I'm not interested in.

If you go into your notification settings and scroll to the bottom you can disable pop-ups for your followed forums.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,196 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

I only have 3 followed forums in my list and I have notifications disabled for them already. The notifications I'm getting don't seem to be for those forums as far as I can see. It looks like they might be based on the old followed forums that were meant to be carried over but didn't work.

Hi guys, we were looking at the Follow Forum feature yesterday and I noticed that even when I selected to follow a forum and be notified of new discussions and posts, I was getting none. Flagged this with the team and they have fixed it so that notifications are now coming through. You can adjust your notifications per forum either in Notification Preferences here at the bottom under 'Followed Categories': https://www.boards.ie/profile/preferences/ or in the forum itself.

On desktop to unfollow from the forum page, click on the bell icon to open the follow options menu to change. Selecting 'Follow on my homepage' as in the screenshot will just add it to your followed forums without any notifications.

    Screenshot (60).png

On mobile, go to the list of forums and click on the Cog icon to select 'Unfollow'. If you don't want to unfollow completely use the link above to disable the pop up notifications. Following a forum from mobile will enable the same settings as 'Follow on my homepage' above - follow with no notifications.

Ye changed it, ye fix it.

Niamh, the problem is people are getting notifications for forums they are not currently following. Look at my post above yours and all the others. I am getting notifactions for forums I followed on the old site but I am no longer following. It seems if I follow those forums again and disable pop up notifications it stops. People should not have to do this though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,701 ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

Weird, all my old followed forums are showing on that list. Many of them I never followed on the new site.

Disabling notification pop-ups in this list appears to have solved the problem for me.

Search is taking roughly 20 seconds for me on average. Is there a plan to improve this? This should really be a tenth of what it is.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,196 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

I had 3 on my list. I think I added at least one on this new site but I don't think I added the others though. My list on the old site would have been much longer.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
