Asking again as this question might have been missed during the migration…any feedback would be appreciated.

Has anyone taken the International Business (BBS, Level 8) at Dorset College? Any info/feedback on the course/college? Thanks.

Self-directed learning, each subject is divided into three modules and there's one or two tutorials for each where they review the course notes and there's an opportunity to ask questions etc (Timetable attached). There's one group project within the Operations subject.

    • Operations Management, Service Operations Management, Operations Strategy
    • Career Success x 3
    • Project & Change Management, Organisational Change and one elective

Overall I found the course to be intense but interesting. The staff are very easy to talk to but some of the lecturers don't go into enough detail / explain what they are looking for in the assignments. I hope that's of use, happy to answer questions / feel free to DM me

I applied for this as well. It is relevant to my work but I submitted the application on the last day and may miss out on a first come, first served basis. It seems to take three of the courses from DCU's taught masters offerings, so the standard should be good. I also applied for European Law and Policy course, as it covers some of the same ground and looks to be of a similar quality. Let me know if/when they get back to you.

Hope someone might know, I have been offered a course through PAC with Carlow but I also have a springboard application for the same course which is still pending. If I accept the PAC offer and pay the deposit and then my springboard offer comes through can it be applied to PAC offer or does it not work that way.

I would hate for the chance to pass by waiting for a springboard offer.

Has anybody any info on the Level 7 Diploma in Big Data for Business in DBS. Just wondering what follow on courses it may lead to and how many evenings per week it is?

Anyone heard back from UL yet? I applied for a Level 9 over a month ago and haven't even been asked to provide extra documentation to support my application.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,197 ✭✭✭✭Berty

No that course specifically but another course(Diploma elsewhere in UL). I was accepted, paid my deposit and it's all confirmed. That was about 3 weeks ago at this stage. All information from them came from gps@ul.ie so I'd be emailing them there to enquire.

Did you also register yourself on the UL side of things, fill in your application and put in your Springboard+ application number. It's a requirement.

What is the closing date of your course? Maybe mine was sooner so they reacted faster. Then again there are only a certain number of people who can be from springboard on coures apparently so the sooner you follow up the better I'd say.

Yes, I applied through Springboard and then UL itself. I emailed the GPS address around two weeks ago asking when I could expect to hear whether I had secured a place, and they said they were working through a lot of applications and would let me know ASAP. That's it. The closing date is the 1st August so I'm wondering whether they're waiting until then to let people know. It's just frustrating because I need to know if I'm going to have to relocate to Limerick or not. The course starts the 6th of September so they're cutting it fine.

yes, the course will be made up of springboard and those who are doing the masters. Got slightly freaked out on the induction day pre covid where the course lead said this is Masters level and we expect that..given that I had left college 15 years ago.

A lot of self study and reading of articles. Tutorials were ok, like jesuisrois said they go through the notes (some lecturers are better than others) they then give you the opportunity to ask questions about the assignments. Usually a peer review, essay and something else. the group project is the second assignment ...which is a pain as some people by that stage have dropped out etc. I thought it was good I enjoyed the services side- the lecturer helped though.

the second side ...I wasn't a fan of one of the main lecturers...literally just went through the slides...

Use the referencing software they recommend, it will save you so much time. when I did it we had to do a career module too...which was a pain

Anyone have experience of UCG (University College Galway) and if they offer springboard places in advance of the closing date?

It's a lot of work for a Certificate- it's two ECTS away from a Diploma - pity it doesn't have diploma status

Thanks for the reply shannon82 - what was painful about the career module?

Still waiting on DCU to get back to be re my application. The closing date was well over two weeks ago. I don't know if that's a good/bad sign!!

Which course? The Ops one closign date was only a few days ago July 31st, if you log onto your Springboard account you can check the history, you should see if it has been downloaded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 IwishIknew2020

Hi, no a differant course. I decided not to go for the Ops one.

    Thanks

Is a level 8 higher diploma and a level 8 Hons degree the same on paper, I have applied for both with different providers and they seem the same on NFQ chart.

I have googled it but haven’t came across much except that one is by a TU and the other an IT.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,197 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I had similar confusion about a course in UL which is a L7 Diploma and then a L8 degree to advance onto. Had confused me as I had completed a L6 cert in an AIT but the advancement to finish the AIT L7 would be awarding a degree(didn't get funded this year so didn't advance). You'd think they'd have been the same based on NFQ but they're not.

So I don't have any answer, just adding I'm also confused by some offerings.

Yeah same here they look the same on BFQ but not sure which one to go for atm

Slightly confusing- applied for L9 cert in Project Management, Sligo IT. Received an email from Sligo for their Open Day so presumed I got the course. When I check in Springboard it's still pending.

Thank you for your recent application to study Health Project Management - Cert L9 with Online Learning at IT Sligo. We are delighted to invite you to our virtual open evening taking place on Tuesday, 17th August 2021 from 7pm to 9pm.

Level 7 is in old money a diploma, its now called an ordinary degree. Level 8 is the degree level.

I had enrolled last year and dropped out. Am I not eligible for any more springboard courses? I had got accepted into a new course this year but the springboard site said no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 IwishIknew2020

If you go onto the Springboard page I know it does explain what happens if you dont finish a course. I didnt think it ruled you out for the following year but maybe it does.

They are also very responsive to emails so maybe drop them a line.

I got accepted to the Ops Management course in DCU I think one or two were looking at it.

I think I really want a course in NUIG but closing date for that isnt till this weekend.

    Anyone else successful?

Just wondering, has anyone applied for Hdip Computing in NCI or Software development in DCU?

I just submitted the application last night. Springboard states that the deadline is today. Do I need to apply through the college separately?

Also, what are the chances if I don't have any technical background, except some basic self-taughtstuff?

My background is in healthcare, having two different masters in the healthcare field. Now, have this feeling to pursue computer Sc is higher than ever

Hey , just thought I give you two cents I did the HDIP In comp science in IT carlow after doing a undergrad in history and classics and a masters in european history.

My best advice is to go into it whole hog, a lot of its going to be new but speaking on my personal experience the lecturers were always willing to go back over stuff.

One of the most difficult aspects I found was the programming modules but there are courses on udemy and codeacademy that can help.

To my most surprise the networking modules I took to like a duck to water.

The only thing in it is a lot of content but its very rewarding and got me the role I am still in today.

Looking for some advice on part time data analytics courses. I have two offers on springboard courses which I am weighing up at the minute ; a level 8 higher diploma in data analytics from CCT college and the level 9 postgraduate certificate in fundamentals of data science from TU Dublin.

I don't have coding experience but my current job does involve a large amount of data analysis using spreadsheets. I also have experience in econometric research for a part time masters which I recently finished.

The postgrad certificate is level 9 vs the level 8 higher diploma - not sure how significant that is? Also the postgrad cert is only 30 credits vs 60 for the higher diploma so does this mean a large difference in terms of course content? Be great to get any opinions from anyone familiar with the courses.

So you took a place and didn't bother finish the course.

You may have stopped someone else from getting a place, someone who may have actually finished the course.

I think it's dam right that they prevent people that do that from applying again.

Anybody applied for or currently studying for the postgraduate diploma in Packaging, Innovation and Product Design in AIT?

It's a relatively new course so would appreciate some feedback. Thanks.
