Hell no. The logo should always link to the homepage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 12,046 ✭✭✭✭J Mysterio

    No.

I am saying that when a user clicks on the 'Boards.ie' part of the banner, it should link them to their own 'my bookmarks' i.e. as it was on the old Boards... it would redirect the user to 'my threads'.

    Yep, happy with that.

Maybe have 'recent discussions' in the hamburger menu which is all updated/active threads in your followed forums.

Or have the quick links, which are only available down the very end, in the hamburger menu - Recent Discussion/My Discussions/My Drafts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

It shouldn't. Every logo on any site should link to the homepage. The difference is there was a setting to set the default tabs to "My Threads" or "My Forums" etc. My Discussions is not the homepage.

Is there a way to find all my posts?

I'm pretty sure there used to be on the old site.

Bookmarks on mobile seem a little hit and miss as to whether it brings you to the newest post or the top of the last page

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 13,289 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

    It does.

On the mobile site, what are the posts displayed on the home page?

If they are the latest posts, then what is displayed is different to the main site.

It seems like something has changed every time I log in today!😂😊

Does anyone know how to change the number of posts per page?

Pages I've bookmarked on my PC now don't work as the page number is all wrong.

Go into your Profile, then down the bottom of the page click Comments. This is on Mobile, not sure if it's the same on Desktop.

On mobile, go to your profile from the profile pic, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Comments.

On desktop, the same link works but is not readily available - https://www.boards.ie/profile/comments/

This is on a list of things to be rectified.

If it says View: All under Now Ye're Talking then it is the most recent posts with some stickys ahead of the latest posts. If they are not relevant to you or you have already read them, you can dismiss them via the cog icon on the right.

You can change that to View: Following and it will show posts from the forums you are following since the migration.

I'm afraid we can no longer change that individually, everyone is on the same number of posts per page which is 30. We can adjust the number but it will apply to all users across the site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,741 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Well that is really annoying especially on fast moving threads where you are refreshing the page very often - maybe 20 is the middle ground

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,976 ✭✭✭wally79

Wow. Huge improvement in the banner today.

also a lot more positivity in the comments

    Boards.ie may live on

I think a user poll is the best answer. 30 is too many, especially when notifications on mobile bring you to the top of the most recent page, not the most recent post, so you've a lot of old stuff to scroll through before finding what's new.

And on that subject, any update on fixing the issues with notifications? That is, one notification per post is silly (should be per updated thread), desktop notifications clear individually (even if you click into a thread which has 15 new posts, only 1 of the 15 notifications will clear), mobile notifications are the opposite (clicking into one notification clears them all), and of course posting in a thread doesn't automatically trigger notifications for that thread.

I'll add notifications and their inconsistent behaviour to the list!

Great to see last poster and post time etc back on the thread lists. However does it need to be spread over 4 lines on mobile?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,424 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

The last poster and last post time is great. A few things:

    1. I'd get rid of view counts. Certainly on mobile. I don't think anyone used that before. It's a bit too much information for my bookmarks.

    2. Would it be possible to remove the date for today's posts? Instead of 13-08-21 5:07pm, just have it as 5:07pm unless it was last updated before today.

    3. Could you condense it down to three lines of info under the title? Four lines of info takes up a lot of space. Maybe 'Most recent by Niamh at 5:07pm' instead of having them both on different lines.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

A small update for today though everyone in this thread has probably seen them already!

    • The notification bar on mobile view has been condensed to sit in the top bar now to take up less space
    • The mobile homepage was updated to show more info per thread (last poster, last post time, replies, views) - we'll look at possibly condensing this down a bit more to take up one less line if it can be done
    • the site will be reindexed this evening in an effort to fix the inaccurate search results

That's it for today, we're working on other things as well that just weren't ready yet but we'll hopefully have more for you on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone 🙂

30 is fine. 40 would be better, imo. If the issue is that you have to scroll and a thread won't keep track of your last read post, reducing or increasing the number of posts isn't going to fix having to scroll. There's an easy fix for notifications, turn them off and only keep the one's checked that mention you in a post.

On mobile, Boards banner is truncated on the right in portrait view. Can only barely see avatar. Landscape is fine.

It shouldn't be that hard to allow users to choose their own posts per page, a small amount of coding needed but nothing drastic, I wouldn't right it off as just the way it is, tough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭KKkitty

Are threads still going to be closed at 10,000 posts? Also is dark mode coming soon?

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,801 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

They've said before that there's no need more to close threads at 10k

Theres a dark mode available through chrome if you need it immediately. It's been posted here previously

No mention of the 10K limit now.

Try the Dark Reader add-on in your browser ( in Firefox - pretty sure you can get it for other browsers too). It works for the majority of sites.

    Definitely an improvement on mobile.

Glad to see it but it makes me wonder why UI testing wasn't done initially.

Maybe it's just me being me but I'm wondering was it a case of HQ saying let's see what we can get away with not doing. If so, it backfired.

    Any word from the DPC?

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
