I think it's more about various form privilege than specifically public services. Public services, after all represent a vast source of public wealth that can easily be transferred to the right people.

Some of them seem to have realised that conservatism no longer cuts it in the marketplace of ideas. Historically, it would evolve, most recently when Margaret Thatcher's Tory party embraced neoliberalism. The problem that caused is that it eroded the social contract and cut people out of entering the trappings of society by which the next generation of right wing voters is born. There's no downside to voting for higher property taxes if you're never going to own property.

Differences such as those you mention are fine as long as said people know their place. Fortunately, we don't live in that world any more. The trade off is that now such things are used to divide society as we can't have anyone asking too many questions about tax evasion, billionaire space races and austerity now, can we?

The fact that Marcus Rashford can't be criticised without bringing in Jimmy Saville really does encapsulate modern right wing thought perfectly.

To put it a bit more succinctly, there seems to be a large cohort of people who are happy to vote against their own interest if people they despise can be made to suffer. The Brexit vote is a perfect example. Conservatism is just a scam where you convince the ethnic majority to vote for scam artists who denude their prospects. Then they get triggered when immigrants move in to work.

As you said, this sort of edgy-libertarian mind bleach only really appears on forums. I've yet to meet a real person who thinks that the vaccine is part of some genocide attempt though I am glad the bad weather here scuppered my planned visit to the National Gallery. I'd no idea there was a c*nt convention planned.

Thus comparing Rashford with Saville. It's disgusting. If you don't like Rashford, you could have said so but you had to bring Saville into this and it's fairly obvious why.
