We're always hearing that these cars can't follow closely enough in a Grand Prix, they overheat tyres, brakes, engines, etc. As a result we often end up with trains of cars just managing the gap. Bearing that in mind, if you can't follow in a Grand Prix won't the sprint race likely be the same? Just seems dumb

I think the best reference point is the red flag restarts at Baku this year, and Monza last year. Cars on fresh tyres with low fuel produced great racing. I guess the one counter-argument is that the risk/reward is not quite the same as Sunday; will drivers be willing to risk a move for the sake of one grid position on Sunday, if it could mean a retirement and starting from 20th?

Driving up to Silverstone tomorrow evening with the campervan. The plan was to catch the qualifying on Saturday but will miss it now that it's been moved to Friday, shame. Still looking forward to it though and the sun will be shining.

It has not even started yet and already I do not like it. I think it's a gimmick. Hope it does not last. If it ain't broke don't fix it is how the saying goes.

It was perfect before. We have had some of the best quali sessions ever over the last couple of years so it was working grand. Leave what works alone and just fix the cars I say.

I'll reserve judgement for the sprint race, but I am interested in some of the side effects.

For one thing they get much less practice time before parc ferme now, so I expect lots of sub-optimal setups could make things interesting.

Secondly, the silly rule about top ten drivers starting on qualifying tyres goes away, which opens up many more possibilities for strategy on Sunday. Easy to imagine someone like Perez starting the race on hard tyres and shaking things up a bit. Also puts an end to the annoying situation where a midfield driver who does great on Saturday basically gets punished for it on Sunday versus the guy that qualified 11th or 12th.

Never been to F1 before so not really sure what to expect but qualifying should be ok at 6pm on Friday.

Going to be a warm weekend so no talk of rain radar by Crofty.

I want this championship to go down to the wire. Last lap of last race if possible. (imagine if France or Baku were the finalé) Right now Max has enough of a cushion to leave Silverstone championship leader no matter what. If this trajectory continues, he'll have it wrapped up with 3 rounds to go.

I think we'll end up with a proper Noah's ark grid by the finish Sunday

The extra 17 laps of racing will give the better cars more time to get ahead, and leave slower cars behind

Did anything ever come of the customer teams exclaiming that their clutch won't hold up?

Not sure about the quali and sprint race. I would imagine there won't be much of a change from how they line up for the sprint race.

Really don't like the forum changes.

Unless a regular Q3 driver has a nightmare quali for the sprint race I predict it will be a bit of a snooze fest as its very high risk low reward, perhaps a back marker fancying his chances and causing a spin ?

Lando Norris clocked in a lap just behind Verstappen. I hope that will give Lando a boost in confidence as he heads into Qualy later this this evening.

And Carlos Sainz had a little spin in his Ferrari before he went into the pits.
