my local bar are leaving the older and vaccinated lads drink in the bar as normal, with the younger un-vaccinated crowd drinking in the outdoor area.

The garda have called and have ignored it.

I see nothing wrong with this. Eventually everyone vaccinated will be allowed to move inside. They are vaccinating the 30 year olds at the moment, so it's not far away.

Interesting how do they know they've been vaxxed, cud be anti vaxxers amongst them? Especially as Delta posing a big threat.

Weird, you reckon most businesses want unvaccinated people in their places potentially posing a threat to them or their staff, instead of the soon to be majority of vaccinated people of all ages, I find that hard to believe?

Their staff are young and won't be affected if they get the virus.

    So it's not that weird.

Vaccinated people can still get the virus and pass it on.

I don't see how unvaccinated are considered safe around vaccinated people.

Ah come on, you know full well that the ability to catch and then spread covid is massively reduced in vaccinated people compared to unvaccinated. We can't treat every situation the same when risk levels are completely different

Of course much less chance of passing on if vaccinated, not sure what the op is suggesting.

At least Pat queried some of the dodgy decisions like how is it now possible to cut gap between AZ doses to 4 weeks when all along they've insisted on 4 months, then three months. Why was AZ only suitable for the magic group of people aged 60-69 a couple of months ago and now is fine for those aged 18-40?

True on first part , on the last part of your post maybe more data available since initial decision?

He's suggesting that if you're going to be conservative about the whole thing, then we should restrict movements of vaccinated people as well as they can catch and pass on the virus.

They buckled to public pressure there rather than using any scientific data.

    No doubt about it.

If that's the case then society will be closed down for ever, has to be a sensible compromise. It sounds like mischievous comments from people who want everything open to the unvaccinated.

I find Paul Moynagh a very good contributor on covid, he has a very balanced view I find in a sea of over cautiousness here in Ireland. When he talks about NPHETs modelling it makes you wonder where they plucked their figures from at all.

Pat straight into antigen testing this morning , explaining to us how he knows more about it than anyone else

Well Philip Nolan hasn't resiled (to my knowledge) from his 'snake oil' assertion, even though the NPHET are now "exploring" antigen testing, at last. They're going to look into doing what seems to work well across Europe. Pat might be annoying, he's like a dog with a bone at times, but he's right.

There is inevitably going to be an Inquiry after this is over (it will probably never be 'over', but greatly minimised), and I think the reluctance to use antigen testing will be one of the biggest issues, second-only to the nursing home deaths (which is relevant to antigen testing, too, because if employed back then, I suspect a lot of lives would have been saved).

I think it is more of a challenge to the CMO's "party line" on testing, rather than an explanation to the expert.

Sarah Carey nailed the issue in the Independent last March. NPHET/CMO (in particular CMO) stance on antigen testing has nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with Cervical Check. Risk aversion born out of past experience. TH was the devil incarnate back then before donning (or having been draped in) the Superman suit in March 2020.

Agree with everything you've said but NPHET are not now exploring antigen testing. Mary Butler who's over this new antigen task force isnt a member of NPHET as far as I know. NPHET are still against it not government are finally running with it, we might have something up and running by Christmas if we're lucky!

I hate NPHET trying out the 'show is the real world study that antigen testing is effective' line, its basically impossible to prove and measuring them against a known to be overly sensitive PCR test isn't a good measure.

First story... let's interview a woman about her innocent son who was caught in the crossfire of a gangland feud 15 years ago.

Starts off the segment by telling us it was 15 years ago... then asks the woman how long it's been and how she's felt in the meantime knowing no-one has been brought to justice. Next question: take us back to that day

WTF? Is he auditioning for the Late Late when Tubridy retires or something?

Awful story, still remember it, poor lad and woman, I hope she can find some peace.

Healy shouting over the guest after asking him a question. What an absolute dose he is - I said I'd give him a chance but I'm off to Spotify again while Pat is off.

Delighted to see somebody identify the issue of civil servants getting 100% pay when they may not be working at all.

They should have gotten Anton Savage to stand in for Pat.

I think he would be the ideal replacement when Pat leaves.

They shouldn’t let Pat and Moncrieff be off at the same time.

Healy just has a pompous know it all personality. Difficult to listen to, even when he's right.

Anto Savage was on all last week on the Hard Shoulder, he should have stuck around this week too to fill in for Pat !!

If Pat isn’t looking to extend his contract when it’s up in 2 years they should be looking to bring in Savage.

Would be a good time to ditch the ‘Lunchtime Live’ show and sort out their Saturday mornings and Sunday before 11am.

Savage just seems fake and bland to me and has a terrible sounding laugh. He's a PR consultant after all so is probably terrified of being disliked or causing offence.

I fully believe that Pat Kenny will never retire.

The man seems to have the constitution of a horse; he doesn't look, or sound, like a man in his 70s. There mustn't be a child left in Dalkey with a sup of adrenochrome in their heads.
