laptop & monitor connection issue

    hi all, forgive me for my lack on tech knowledge, I have a work laptop, DELL , it has a HDMI output, I also have a DELL monitor, which has a display port connection, can these be connected ? are they different types of signal and not compatible? if they can be connected could you please show me a link to the cable or adapter on DELL , thank you in advance,
