Right, well that definitively answers any questions on whether injury kept James Ryan out of the Lions!

Its difficult to be certain, but originally I took it as the Lions needed someone who was fit straight away and had to play this W/E to get integrated with the squad

Beard isn't even on the bench for the Lions whereas Ryan is fit enough to start for Ireland.

I don't think Farrell would risk Ryan in a game like this unless he was 100%

IMO Ryan just isn't the type of lock that Gatland is looking for

Henshaw is out of next Wednesday's game with a mild hamstring strain.

Most likely looking at Daly at 13 v the Sharks then, seen as Harris is playing tomorrow.

no harm in henshaw missing these two games.....

i think the team that starts against SA "A" will be closest to the starting team

This could be 60 or 70. BIL are destroying them.

Conor McNamara on comms. Absolutely woeful, I know Miles Harrison is unwell but talk about falling upwards.
He’s constantly a few seconds behind the play, just now the Lions scored their 2nd try with zero fanfare.

Presumably the comms are sitting in the UK somewhere too. You can tell.

Just missed a brilliant kick to touch there because he was talking about try scorers at Murrayfield.

Easily. In a completely different class here.

4 people on commentary is terrible.

Nigel Owens accusing referees there of everything he was accused of, particularly in the latter part of his career.
Needs to read up on irony while he waits for his next question.

4 people on commentary is terrible.

They’ll end up at 17, one commentator, 15 players for each position and a referee.
If it ends up muting Heaslip and Greenwood, then all the better?

Don't think I've ever watched a rugby game where an ex referee has also been used as a real time pundit/commentator.

I know BT use Peter Walton during soccer games as their ex referee to discuss contentious refereeing decisions. But here the commentators are involving Owens in the general discussion of the game. Much better use of the referee as a commentator.

Greenwood has big 'played rugby in Uni' energy.

Sky look like they’re on the ground over there? That seems needlessly reckless given the state of the pandemic in South Africa.

    Farrell's having a bit of a stinker.

Warburton is right that he's not a crash ball centre like Aki is. He should be used as a link man but currently he's being used as a running option too much.

McNamara missed a try again there, even asking “what’s going on here?”. It’s going to a long long tour. Any alternatives to Sky by the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

I hope the hosts are better than this in the URC! That try was embarrassingly easy.

Some fantastic long throws by George so far

In fairness I think that was in reference to the defence just parting

Farrell having a noticeably poor game.

Hamish Watson having a blinder, looking very tough to leave him out of the test team. Curry needs a big game on Wednesday.

Yera have a look at the players there missing to be fair to them

Nice to be able to cheer for a player like Hogg. Has matured a huge amount over the last few years and captaincy has suited him surprisingly well.

Only other coverage i can find in my channels is Sky Sports NZ, and they're using SA commentary.
