Most bucket chain excavators drive on caterpillar tracks, this one, the RK 5000 actually 'walks' around the place.
Built in Czechoslovakia in 1983, it weighs 5,600 tons, the hydraulics alone need 15,000 l of oil to move it. It needs 6 people working together to drive it. It's only going out of service as the mine is closing and it makes no financial sense to dismantle it and rebuild it elsewhere.
It's top speed is less than 1 km/h. For comparison, it can be outrun by the Leopard Tortoise, the world's fastest tortoise.
