Ours will anyway. I think it can depend how far they'd have to travel to the venue though. So always important to check! I wouldn't like the idea of one of the wedding party having to transport the cake, it could end up a disaster.

Most bakers will freeze sponges and buttercream, both thaw really well and is really convenient when making a wedding cake.

I made my sister's wedding cake including a separate slab of chocolate biscuit cake for the next day too. It was really popular and I got more compliments for that even though it was much easier than the main cake.

Ok so probably better to choose a baker close to the venue. I wouldn’t like to put the responsibility of transport and safe asssembly on anyone, or even myself.

Yeah we're getting married in Dublin, but I was seriously considering a baker based in Portlaoise for a while! In the end though it was much more straightforward to go with the person recommended by the venue who's more local.

Glad to hear that, chocolate biscuit cake hasn't gotten much love on this thread :P

We're pretty sure now that we're going to go with 2 tiers: chocolate biscuit cake (with a bit of marshmallow, twix and maltesesers thrown in) and lemon drizzle cake

Thanks a million :) It's all systems go now! You'd think with the extra year to plan, we'd be well on top of things... but not a hope :P

We've the cake sorted now at least though :D

The cake! If anyone is interested :) We went with lemon drizzle on top and chocolate biscuit (including maltesers, twice and marshmallows) on the bottom. It was yum! Glad we didn't go for 3 layers though, as we've a lot in our freezer now :P

We got ours from Creative Cakes. They're based in Blanchardstown.

We went with Janeys Cakery (based in Balbriggan). Jane was lovely to work with, so sound, very responsive to emails and very understanding about all the postponed dates 🙈 We found her very good value for money compared to other quotes we got. I think she does baking part time and also does other types of celebration cakes, which might explain the price difference compared to other wedding cake specialists. But it means she really puts her heart into all the cakes she does and we couldn't fault her! I'd highly recommend checking her out anyway :)
