Love this song - I've been waiting for the right time to drop it into a walrus, beaten to it :D

I probably would have been disappointed if somebody hadn't submitted Sigur Ros to me in a Spiritual/Ethereal music round. I didnt like this at first because everytime i listened to it, i had it on in the background. But when I really focused on it, I thought it was excellent. I am partial to a bit of sigur ros. I couldnt recall this particular song from before this walrus but I'm really happy it was submitted and brought to my attention. An excellent piece.

This is very awesome. I love that I now know where the Cold Case theme came from now. And I have gone down a major rabbit hole listening to this stuff. Nineveh is another class piece of music. I do love an instrumental and the strings really hit the spot for Ethereal. This is just a great piece!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,666 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

The top 2, I have billed both of them with one phrase in my notes

    "Hauntingly Beautiful"

Which Hauntingly Beautiful track is going to win....

Delighted, it was because I fell in love with the Cold Case theme I found this - I went on a google and loved the whole album :)

    Happy sleep dance!

Great drums in that, I imagine it would be pretty awesome to see live

Kyla la Grange - To be told : Submitted by
    Electric Nitwit

Hauntingly Beautiful. Those opening bars are just incredible. She has a fantastic voice that I really just felt captured the spirit of the category. It probably lost out on the top spot when it builds into that crescendo of guitars and drums and I felt it took from the ethereal nature of everything but overall, i just thought it was a gorgeous vocal and it never left my top 3 from when I first heard it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,039 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    So close :p

Delighted you liked it. She's generally quite rocky. I went to see her after she'd only released a couple of songs and was not expecting this, I was blown away.

I entered Vampire Smile by her into Necro's Halloween one and it did well too. I thought she was incredible but sadly she never really made it, glad to be spreading the love for her :)

Hauntingly Beautiful. This just went straight in at number 1 and never left it. Beautiful sound. Beautiful vocal. Keeps the same tone the whole way through and I just loved this. The mysticism of it all...

So yeah. On the whole I really enjoyed this category, far more than I expected to. Went down a few rabbit holes listening to other music from some of the artists so that's brilliant.

    5. A song that reminds you of a fantasy theme/setting is our next category! Could be a 2 week reveal again. Change of positions at work has cut my listening time a bit, but I'll update how I'm getting on, nearer the time.

Goodnight all, thanks for coming in and see you for the next exciting installment in the Rikand Walrus Reveal :)

That is haunting, nice ominousity (is that a word? Should be!)

    Well played 2D

Cheers Ricky, another enjoyable one :)

Redeeming myself a bit from Round 2's efforts, woohoo ;)

I think the song osh picked is class! Maybe category fit is lower in the second half of it, but I still really like it, vocals and all. I also really liked LeVar's choice but am a sucker for a good choir too, but I feel it was a deserved win for H2D, a perfect fit for the category.

I like that Hooverphonic song and note the Eurovision entry :) ... to preserve the integrity of the ari Jury I can neither confirm nor deny whether it may feature in my top 10 :pac:

Agreed, really nice. Scala & Kolacny do a good cover version of Creep. And for me to say someone does even an acceptable cover of a Radiohead song is very high praise :pac:

I think their cover of Creep was the first thing of theirs I heard (it was used in the Trailer for The Social Network) which was enough for me to go check out the rest of their discography and been a fan of Scala & Kolacny Brothers ever since.

So, at the half way point, ShaneU extends his lead at the top with Sephy falling to 4th, EN and H2DPB take up the mantle of the chasing pack.

There's only 6 points separating the next 7 players with the bottom 4 starting to get cut adrift at the foot of the table.

But with 4 rounds to go it's, still very much, all to play for!

Have my bottom 10 fairly well set. Top 5 are still jumping around in positions.

Hopefully they will be all set by this evening. Given that my kids dont seem to go to bed till after 9 pm on a friday night, I might try start this at 8 instead :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,941 ✭✭✭osh

No annoying voice in my song this time so hopefully I'm not bottom 3 again :D

The wife brought home toys for the kids from shopping. "Some" assembly required. Might have to push 8pm out to 9 or 10 depending on how the assembly goes...

The 6 story garage is built.... the flicker is still to go. Hopefully a kick off at 10:30 or else I will just have to postpone altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,666 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

The Flicker was much easier to assemble lol

Okay, lets get this show on the road.

Category 5. A song that reminds you of a fantasy theme/setting

Overall, this was probably my least favourite category so far. Most songs I felt fit the category quite well though I only enjoyed about half of them, but there was a few that I just didnt feel fit the category at all. I have, perhaps controversially, just put those songs in the bottom spots. Even though I liked them, I just felt I needed to reward the people who met the feel I had in mind for the category more.

    Guess who - Sephiroth_dude

If this came on during a scene of Beverly Hills Cop, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised but I don’t get anything fantasy or medieval or anything from this at all. It's grand but just not a category fit for me

In 14th place, scoring 2 points

All the stars by Kendrick Lamar and SZA : Submitted by

This song is grand. I don’t turn it off when it comes on the radio, in fact, I sometimes hum along to the chorus, but it just wasn’t a category fit for me at all.

Utada Hikaru - Simple and Clean : Submitted by

The thing is, I love the Kingdom Hearts game series. When this game came out, I played it non stop until I had finished it. I just loved it. But I don’t think the song matches the category at all. It doesn’t give me a fantasy feeling at all. The track is grand but I'm putting it down here because despite the game being fantasy for me, the song just isnt.

Popular Monster by Falling In Reverse : Submitted by

In a different category, this would have done quite well. I like the song, but I just don’t get anything that matches the category from it. One good thing I suppose, I am definitely going to check out more Falling In Reverse songs on the strength of this song. it was just a mile wide on category fit for me
